Just curious, after reading episodic's thread.

Me, I'm getting about $750 back. Dell 2405FPW, anyone? (at least when the price gets down there)

I still need to do mine. Since I have more deductions and less capital gains this year, I'm estimating about $1200 Fed and $300 state.

Nah, I'm pretty content with my current PC. Refunds will go into savings. Sounds boring!

I remember doing my taxes as a teenager when my parents stopped claiming me. Getting that extra 50-100$ back was like the greatest thing in the world, free money!

You do realize that getting a refund isn't a good thing, right? Essentially, you gave an interest free loan to the government. If you owe the government more then $1000 they might fine you to make up for their lost interest. We should be able to do the same when the government owes us lots of money. After all, it is our money.

People need to learn more about economics. It is better to have less taken out from each paycheck and get no refund then it is to have less throughout the year and get one big lump payment at tax time. Money now is better then money later.

To bad we can't just scrap the tax code and go to a system that says you made this much so you owe that.

Right now it looks like I owe the feds $1800.

Roughly even on my two state returns, less than $100 each direction.

Still waiting on one more W2, should increase one state return & hopefully decrease what I owe the feds.

i disagree. i personally would rather get more taken out each check and adapt to living with that income, then get this bonus check out of nowhere that can pay for my summer vacation to exotic locations.

if i were to get less taken out, i would just adapt to my higher income every check and probably end up not saving it (as basically i am forced to do and get it back in the form of a tax refund).

We usually pay on oen and get back on the other. We'll probably get back a few hundred more than we pay.

I wasn't expecting to get all of my tuition costs back in my return. Without them I'd be getting back like $300.

some people would have just pissed away the money anyway so that point is moot

its not nice because we lent them money its nice because its money we haven't budgeted into our expenses

Yeah, my question doesn't concern whether people give a sh!t about how the economics of tax refunds works. All I asked is if people were getting money back or paying more at tax time. If you want to turn this into a rant about how the government uses our money, take it to P&N.

Sorry to bitch at you--it's early in the morning, and I have 4 1/2 hours of meetings to look forward to today

It should be a bit over $300..

Edit: The government has paid thousands of dollars for my school -- I'm not complaining about taxes.
