how much money do you honestly think you would need to make a year to live "comfortable"?

I felt like I was living comfortably on 33K in the NYC suburbs when I got my first "real" job 5 years ago.

enough to pay the rent/bills and with enough left over to put into savings is the definition of comfortable for me.

I did alright making $18k a year here in Wv a few years back. I was able to buy a house, had two paid for cars, and health care through work. Doesn't take much when you are a single dude with low standards . I'm a bit more comfortable making $10k more year now though. Just depends on what is comfortable to you. I don't need a huge house and brand new cars every 2 years.

I think in order for me to be living comfortably it'd be more important that I did something I loved doing. As long as the paycheck was consistent (or large enough while inconsistent) that I could provide for my family and help my parents as they age, then I'd be content.

I'm only going to personally make like $20,000 this year because I'm a full time student but I'll be living very comfortably.

My guess is either savings or living at home.

Sure I have plenty of savings but I don't touch them, I add to them. My wife works as well, probably under 30k. My car is paid off, hers is a mere $200 a month. I watch what I spend, we live in a modest apartment and keep bills down.

I lived in a 10x10 room with another guy for 14 months, worked in 127 degree heat, drove around 2 deserts. Most of us have it so easy but cant ever realize that. So yes, I'm quite comfortable. I have to much stuff already and need to get rid of some.

Just relax and be comfortable with what you have.

Edit - Oh, and I'm a good kisser too.

Between 24,000 and 36,000 is pretty comfortable for me. I can live on half that, but it's tight. Anything over that is purely luxury.

hmm, well I was going to say $100,000 but thats probably a different view of "comfortable" than apparently most are using here. Really it depends on your definition, I would define "comfortable" as not having to worry about money to a large extent. I mean just looking at my situation I will be making $60,000 dollars next year and while that seems like a huge amount at first I am currently looking into all the stuff that I will need and it is amazing how quickly money goes away, all those little things add up, especially when you are starting out with no assets (IE: would have to buy EVERYTHING needed to live: silverware, furniture, TV, computer, etc..) and $20,000 in student loans.

I'd say about 30K with no kids.

A lot more with kids.

It depends heavily on the cost of living in your area. I think I could live comfortably anywhere in the U.S. on $100,000 a year. But for me "comfortable" means being able to own a nice house, a $50,000 car, travel, and still be able to put away a good chunck into savings.

Single with no children FTW.
