Age 35 was, gulp, almost 10yrs ago.
Base $151K
Bonus $20K
401K Match $3K
Profit Sharing $4K

I've been maxing my 401K since I turned 30 and just hit the 2nd bend point on SSI which was a milestone I wanted to hit before retiring. Great SSI calculator - https://socialsecurity.tools/

Bend Points: https://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/piaformula.html

Interesting, I've never heard of bend points. Did some googling and found this fairly well laid out article on it.

https://www.physicianonfire.com/ssa2017/

Key points -

What are these bend points? They’re the two points at which you receive diminishing returns in your monthly benefit once you’ve earned a certain amount of money.

The money you’ve contributed over the years is used to calculate your Average Indexed Monthly Earnings (AIME). It’s an inflation-adjusted average of your monthly earnings over your most lucrative 35 years. If you work and contribute for fewer than 35 years, zeroes fill in the blanks.

You get 90% of your AIME up to the first bend point (at an AIME of $895 in 2018)

You get 32% of your AIME between the first and second bend points ( portion of AIME between $885 and $5,397 in 2018)

You get 15% of your AIME beyond the second bend point (AIME above $5,397 in 2018)

ridiculous question, ridiculous answers... If you weren't sick in your teens and 20's, and nothing really prevented you from self educating or going ot college, there's hardly any reason why you shouldn't be making any less than 60k, and after that, the sky is the limit.

If however you are in poor health, or had SERIOUS family/life issues, and couldn't really climb the ladder everyone-else does, be happy with whatever you make, be it 25k, 45k or whatever....

Envy, jealousy, that what you should strive to eliminate, instead of trying to make as much as everyone else does. There are people who live in the forest and make no money at all, but they are much "happier" than you and me.

There is no "should" for age 35. Push yourself professionally, but even more importantly, repeatedly push yourself personally and confront your weaknesses then give it a few years and see where you end up.

I never dreamed I'd do better than a jack of all trades Systems Admin when I was in my mid-20s. My days consisted of hiding in my cube, getting my duties taken care of, and waiting to go home. Now I work as a pre-sales engineer for a storage company, relish getting to talk in front of crowds, actively take on tasks or initiate ones no one asked me to, and have vastly grown my professional and personal network. When I was 35 and stood back to marvel at what I had achieved, the amount of money I was making and job satisfaction I had (overall, didn't particularly like my job at that time but knew I had created a wealth of opportunities for myself) it was leaps and bounds beyond what I had thought possible 10 years prior, even 4 years prior. I've continued to push myself and love who I've become and continue to evolve towards and now as I stare down age 39 later this month I am again making leaps and bounds beyond what I thought was possible at age 35. To put that in perspective, in my 13 years since graduating college at age 26, my yearly pay since starting my first job as a Systems Admin has increased by an AVERAGE of 21% per year. No way that can keep up with where I sit now, but it's mind boggling to think about.

Never be satisfied with who you are, don't let yourself get too comfortable, and push yourself to grow as a human being.

I have a lot more money at 35 than I did at 25, but I also have a lot less free time to spend that money.

I'm not sure money is the right metric here.

I think most of us could have no problem spending the money if we put our mind to it, it's just that most of us are mindful and don't.

I actually made more when I was 30 than what I make now. Of course, I was single and was working 60 hours a week as well.

Making $10K a month as an IT contractor 10 years ago was pretty sweet, but I think that my wife would kill me if I worked those kind of hours now.

... You never got questioned for working 60 hours - knowing how inefficient most people are after working even 35 hours?

Definitely some sweet money. Every year I'm at my peak of how much I make - with significant raises from my current employer.

Yet every year I'm like "Fuck this, I'm going to industry, I can't stand this work environment".... then they give me the raise + bonus and then I'm always like "aight... I guess I can stay 1 more year" heh.
