How Much OC can my PSU handle?

right now i have an ok set up:

965p-DS3
E6400
Corsair XMS2 ProSeries DDR2-6400
Ultra X-finity 500watt
zalman 9500

right now i am at a moderate oc 2.72ghz (340x8) with FSBRAM at 4:5. I am very cautious about going any higher with my current power supply.

I like to keep my computer on most of the day, so what do you guys think? can i hit 3.0ghz without having to worry about my psu going out?

You didn't mention the most important variable, the video card. The fastest ones use more than twice as much power as the cpu's these days.

You're probably pushing the limits of what your psu can handle right now, but the only way to know for sure is to watch your voltages, as you start to overclock. Use Speedfan to check them. The download link on that page, BTW, is the blue SpeedFan 4.31 text, halfway down the page.

edit: The +12v rail is the one that will be dropping, as it's the rail that powers both the cpu, video card, and drives, plus fans.

thanks for the info, right now it says 2.56 on the +12v and -16.97 on the -12v, so do i have any room to play with?

btw: vcore is at 1.33

OK< I have a S3 , E6300 @3.4 and an X1900XT on a Fortron 450..... If that PSU is any good, keep going....

Oh, and The X1900 and the CPU are both @ 100% 24/7, I have the F@H GPU client running on GPU and core0, and the regular client running on core1., so you can't stress the system much more....

i went up to 3.0ghz, hesitant to do anymore without more evidence that my psu can take it, anyone else have a similar setup?

Keep going.....It will start to reboot if it cannot handle it, especially when you get to the cusp of its ability. Then keep an eye on the voltage rails...Flaky PSU likely will have wild fluctuations, very low +12v, or big dro pof the rails under loads...

ill have to look at my voltags, but mine likes to reboot under certain games....i may have a faulty psu myself.
