How much of a difference does 512mb make?

I'm trying to decide between these two cards:

They are the same price, and don't seem too much different at all, but I'm wondering if the 512mb on the pro will be more worthwhile than the 256mb xt.

What setting do you run and do you plan on running down the road? I'd go with the X1950XT since its faster unless you run high resolutions. Even then the X1950pro is probably still on par.

Actually, they are different. The x1950xt has it's memory clocked 200MHz faster than the pro, and the big deal is that pro has one quad disabled. This means the xt has 4 more raster pipes and 12 more shaders in its core. The xt will always be faster.

For this link, you should compare the x1950pro, which is in red, and the x1950xtx, which is only slightly faster than the card you're looking at.

Usually, it is not a good idea to purchase a slower core in favor of more memory.

The X1950XT, even with 256MB of VRAM, is always going to be faster than the X1950 Pro. The XT has a higher core clockspeed (625MHz), 33% more pipelines/shaders, and a higher memory clock (1800MHz). The X1950XT should be slightly faster than the X1900XT 256MB, so look at that for benchmarks and expect maybe 5% better performance.

Ah ok, thx for the clarification. I won't be really running anything higher than 1280x1024 for awhile anyway, and I figured I should double check considering both cards are priced the same.
