I find a huge amount of my enjoyment comes from graphical fidelity. Gameplay is most important but wandering around a beautifully rendered world is almost as good. I was initially disappointed in Fallout 4's graphics which seem flat an dated for 2015 (especially the interiors) but star wars Battlefront looks amazing so far.
When I first visited Rio de Janeiro I looked outside the hotel in the morning and exclaimed to myself in wonder that it 'looked like Crysis'!
It's a bit like beautiful women, when you've been with one or two you realise that they're fun to have around just to look at. A lot of my friends however don't care what women look like as long as they can make out that they're female.
I also think being able to afford a high end rig makes a difference, you can't appreciate what you've never had or experienced and you certainly can't miss it.
