I max out 100% of my brain power trying to contemplate why posts are getting stupider and stupider on anandtech. Honestly, no one runs their computer at 100% power all the time, the point is that their are things (games for me) that max out the power of my computer. I use the power when I want, it's nice to know it's there. Honestly, the reason you are getting so many nasty responses is because you need to refine your technique for framing a question. Your first post comes off as one of those whiny voiced 'im better then you are' type 8 year old things to say. If you work on presenting your question in a more resonable way, ie not trying to antagonize people, you may find your stay on AT a little more friendly.

Well, some people obviously run their computer at 100% all the time, because I am one of them. I wasn't saying this was some stupid techie badge of honor. I just wanted to know if others out there do the same.

Now lets all ask ourselves a question? If I was a golden member would we have responded the same way? Or our we just abusing our "status" in some kind of 8-year-old "i'm better than you" fashion? If you don't like the thread, don't keep bumping it up with your pointless and off-topic replies!

i run seti@home basically 24/7, except when i want to play a game or benchmark or something. otherwise it is always on. the only thing i really use my comp for is surfing and playing games, as well as the occasional paper. these are the things i enjoy doing with my comp, so im glad i have all the processing power when i need it.

SETI and UD running simultaneously 24/7. Sounds as productive as ripping DVD to me.

Most of it.

UD takes up 50% of my computing power since it's not SMP enabled.

When I run at 100% UD is usually off since the computer usually is rendering videos (from edits) or 3D modeling. But during any downtime where I'm just surfing the web and such; UD takes about 50% where the other meaningal tasks are 5-10%.

My computers get thoroughly workouts on a daily basis. I press the machines 100%, 5-20% of the time

Distributed computing projects certainly are not unproductive.. if it wasn't doing something, i wouldn't be running it!

and yes, my CPU is at 100% virtually 365 days a year 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

not keeping in mind, fatal exceptions..

<< Zenmervolt, I really don't think there is anything to discuss regarding my signature. You might like Bush or not, but I'm pointing out a little pattern I'd like everyone to notice. If you're not seeing the pattern, perhaps I should change it to "Oil War." Cause if you think Operation Enduring Freedom has anything to do with freedom, you've got rocks in your head. Unless you mean freedom for oil companies to run pipelines through Afganastan. But that's not really the subject of this thread. BTW, I'm glad you got the "backing up" thing. Seems like you were the only one. >>

now i dont exactly love bush but that is one extremely stupid rationalization. just like the democrats now blaming bush for the recession. a president cannot invoke a recession in 9 months of his inaguration, not to mention we have been on a downward slide since before the elections.

anyways, i'm at 0-5% cpu most of the time, but you guys would be suprised that alot of the time its higher than you think, especially when scrolling. open up taskmgr or some other app that shows cpu usage and then open an IE window and scroll, watch your cpu go way up, even to 100% sometimes!

crazy stuff

But surely a guy/girl is entitle to his/her own opinion. As for a president cannot invoke a recession in 9 months, well if he can invoke growth and he can do the opposite. Perhaps some books on business or economics will make you understand better.

I looked for aliens a lot too, once upon a time, but these days a program that has it's priority set to idle doesn't get much in the way of processing time... I actually put it on a bunch of computers at school when I was in high school, and got a lot of units turned in before they caught me. It was certainly more productive than the computers just sitting there doing nothing at all.

I think the deal with the scrolling is that Windows tries to make it as smooth as possible, so it can use lots of power...

I think I remember (DO correct me if I'm wrong, don't hold me to this), that the Dow took a considerable hit the day W was announced President.

Edit: damn, this is thread that would not die. i mean, i didn't think it was stupid, but it wasn't 30 replies-interesting either.
