I have 384mb of pc133 in my Duron 1ghz system.. I'm running winME and I just wanted to know if I having more ram would make any difference..

With ram prices as low as they are.. even 1gig of generic pc133 ram is just a little more than $300.. but is there any point in having so much?

Just curious.. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What do you exactly do? It also depends on your OS, i don't know if ME really likes more than 256mb seeing how i don't play with ME.

Graphics workstation-512mb+
Audio station-384mb(involving Mp3 encoding and ripping)
Gaming-256mb in win9x 256+ in win2k

I would say your at that point right now. If eventually you move to Win2K, then I would bump the RAM a bit higher. I had 640MB PC133 in my machine running WinME, took out all but 256, and ran practically the same, no noticable difference at all.

If you plan on keeping that setup for a while then I suggest you buy a another nice cheap 256 Meg Dimm. If only for the next 8-9 months then your more than all right

The next Unreal will probably need 512 Megs to run smooth. I know the current UT needs what like 256 Megs to run smooth.

Im running win2k and winme on dual boot.. but I use winme more often for games..

I guess its just that having a gig of ram sounds so cool.. haha..

I think I'll just get one more stick of 256 and then wait until the T-birds reach at least 1.5Ghz..

Thanks everyone.. If you have the rating thing enabled, I'll be sure to give all of you guys a 10.

It just sounds like you have money you want to spend on your computer, but don't know what to on.

Consider this instead of more ram...

You Game, right? More than likely have to insert a CD to play your games.

There's a program that costs about $40 called something like VirtualCD where you can copy your CD's to your hard drive and make it look like a CDROM drive. There are free ones, but they don't work near as good as this program does. This one is supposed to work on ALL cd's, including the ones with the copy protection (bad sectors burnt on the disk).

Buy this program, and a 60 gig hard drive and copy all your favorite game CD's to it... Each CD will have a different drive letter, so you might have to do some editing the games ini's or somethings to make them work (or reinstall worst case), but MAN, let me tell you this, Games that require the CD to play run ZILLIONS times faster when ran from a VirtualCDROM.

Would be money better spent then more memory.

Chris Lee,

If you are really looking for performance, sell your Duron on the boards here.... then check out Compuwiz and get hooked up with a 1.2GHz TBird, can get one for about 240.00. You will immediately know the difference, more than any amount of RAM you could purchase

Hehe.. Actually, I just bought the Duron from Compuwiz a week ago..

I didn't know I'd have money left over I shouldn't have skimped on the processor..

I have 256Mb, and am thinking of getting another 256Mb.

Or do I buy all DDR?

Before investing in DDR technology, wait for later revisions of DDR boards to iron out all the bugs IMHO.
