The description is as follows. Mind you, this is a position for a pretty big internet company (Yahoo, Google, AskJeeves... one of those three -- I am not being specific on purpose). Anyhoo, I have a good chance of getting the job because I have a friend who is referring me, but I want to know what kind of salary to negotiate given what they are asking.

Job Description
The person in this position will be mainly responsible for providing technical support and systems management for the Piscataway office of Ask Jeeves. The candidate will also support technologies in other parts of the company to be determined at a later time.

Responsibilities
# Desktop support and Systems Management, which includes but not limited to the Piscataway office.
# Late, AM & weekend work occasionally required for scheduled off-hour maintenance.
# Documentation of projects.
# Troubleshooting daily user issues such as network or system problems.
# Researching different technologies to implement in the company.
# Working as part of the MIS team to provide technical solutions for our user base.



Job Requirements
Technical Skill
# The ideal candidates for this position will have 3-5 years experience working in the desktop support system management field.
# Installing and troubleshooting every aspect of the Microsoft Windows operating system. This includes but not limited to Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003.
# Experience with Microsoft Exchange server 5.5 and Exchange 2003 is a plus.
# Strong knowledge of Active Directory 2000 and Active Directory 2003.
# Excellent troubleshooting skills are an absolute must have.
# Excellent knowledge of Server, PC and Laptop hardware.
# Experience with Anti virus applications a must preferably Symantec Antivirus versions 7.61 and higher.
# Experience with spy-ware removal and spy-ware tools.
# Strong skills in troubleshooting client side network errors and TCP/IP in general.
# Having worked with RIM Blackberry desktop software and the various blackberry units.
# Experience with: Terminal services, installing and troubleshooting Microsoft Outlook and the entire Microsoft office suite, Microsoft windows messenger, Telecom equipment support, File servers and quota management, Printer support.
# Skills with providing technical support over the phone.
# Knowledge of Video Conferencing technologies.
# Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, WINS.
# Experience with troubleshooting client side remote access tools (VPN).
# Knowledge of windows based scripting is a huge plus.
# Experience with Wi-Fi technologies 802.11x, WPA, WEP.
# Experience with Symantec Ghost server.
# Experience with RAID.
# Experience with various flavors of UNIX, especially Linux a big plus.

# Strong organizational skills a must.
# EXCELLENT communication and people skills are an absolute must have.
# Ability to handle excessive workload and prioritize tasks.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I work a job JUST like that right now, so it's not a big deal but at least I'd be at a better company and closer to home. My commute now is 1.5 hours EACH way, and this job is like .... 5 minutes from my house.

Well that just settles it man!

10-20min round trip Vs 3hrs!

NO BRAINER.

BUT do you work the same hrs? Saving at least 3hrs a day on travel = 15hrs a week is a lot. But having to work late, am and weekends sometimes could be a big decider for you.
