I was wondering as I always try and add as much info as possible including lyrics, album sleaves, links to artists sites, etc.

Reason for this is that I can never to bothered to go routing through my CD's to find a particular producer for a particular track.

An average album converted to 100%VBR = 96mb + tagging info = 105mb-ish

Am I the only one who does this??

ID3 v1 tags only, song #, name, artist name, album name and year. That's it.

Artist, Album, Track Title, Track Number, Year of Release, Genre.

I think that's it.

I include no tag at all.

I just maintain the same naming convention for everything I rip ...
For the tracks: track# - Songname.mp3
for the directories: Band Name - CD Title

One thing is trying to find an CD cover for some of the albums, I guess I could scan them but then I'd have to find the CD box in the pile. And having some where around 500 CDs doesn't make the pile small.

I have no tag at all, just all my mp3's in one big folder, 4000 of them, with the artist name - song title, and maybe in brackets if its live , or a long or short version if I have two different lenghts of the song

I meticulously tagged every one of my mp3 albums a couple of years ago to include all of the data on AMG (allmusic.com). Every album I've gotten since gets the same treatment. AMG's database can't be beat, but I wish that mp3 players made use of their genre/styles/themes system.

For my iRiver I use the file tree, like Explorer, method, no database for me. So I go by folders starting with Artist in Alphabetical Order - Album in Chronological Order - Song as appears on said album.

I use MusicBrainz (http://www.musicbrainz.org)

It automatically tags your files by comparing it to mp3s in their database, if u submit new matches theyll add them to their database. It works great with downloaded mp3s. And generally works ok with self-ripped mp3s (your quality may not match that in the database). the software creates some kind of unique key for each file and then compares it to database keys, then it will give you howmany percentage match it is. Pretty awesome, freeware! It does Tags and Filenames!

I do that with tag&rename, but it seems a number of the CDs are not even sold by amazon. So next is google, but some of the images are a little small. I can find most of the covers on the 'net, just not all.
