How much to charge for a backup/format/re-install?

Yep.

They have about 30 programs which they *ABSOLUTELY* must have and have forgotten about... They'll remember them slowly over a period of several months and they won't have any idea where the installation disks are, they probably won't even remember the name of the program, but they'll certainly call you to see if you can help them with it.

I usually don't charge my friends for stuff like this, but if they insist I tell them whatever they think is fair....they usually cough up anywhere from $50 to $100 depending on the person.

I don't touch anybody's computer outside of work.

But if you're Mr Wizard Master desktop support guru with incredible luck, then I'd do it, but I'd do it for nothing since it's your wife's co-worker and then she'd owe your wife and would feel obligated to return the favor with a flaterring comment infront of a boss or something.

I do side work like this all the time. I normally charge 75.00 for the reconfig and 25.00 to save all data.
I haven't had anyone complain that it's too high, so that's what I would do.
