Have this coming tomorrow. Weighs 440 pounds. Two guys have to haul it up my stairs and into my place.

I am already paying for delivery ($59) as part of my total. I think that based on the size and weight of the thing, I should pay them a couple of bucks if they do a good job and don't smash anything.

Opinions and amounts please.

Enough for lunch I would think for each that shows up. What I did when I had money and my tv showed up.

holy crap, up some stairs?

if they are nice and do really good and you are "rich" , then i would do $20 each
if you aren't so rich, then $10 each

if they are ok, then $5 each

but i don't know about this kind of stuff, i am usually oblivious and it wouldn't occur to me to tip them unless i thought about it ahead of time

Ended up tipping them $10 each. Bar took an hour to move up one flight of stairs due to size and weight. They didnt leave any marks on the walls and I was impressed with how professional they were.

I still don't know how they managed to get the thing up my U shaped staircase but they did it somehow

Just give 'em each a beer, you'll look more considerate than the guy who tips, and it'll cost you less

Ever watched that episode of Friends where they moved the sofa up the stairs? Not like that. (uh, misplaced words again)

???

Tipping a delivery guy??

Why?

**EDIT** Let me qualify this: If it's a time sensitive item (ie food delivery), which arrives in an acceptable state, then sure, a tip is OK... but a Furniture guy... new to me..

i got a 3 piece sectional, armirroorre? lol , and bed and tipped two guys 20. So 10 bucks per guy seems like a good start.

It's their job, and if they are anything like the two movers that just delivered some appliances to my house and carried them down stairs they will make it look surprisingly easy and won't break a sweat in doing so.

As a rule, I owouldn't tip a furniture delivery crew, but in this case, (heavy awkward object upstairs with NO damage to item or walls), I'd probably give them each at least a $10, and maybe a $20 for doing such good work...that is IMO, above and beyond what you paid the store for.
A cold drink for each would be a nice gesture as well...

Yeah, tip the guy that drops off a bag of food at your door and is there for under a minute, but the guy that carries 400 lbs. of crap that you spent too much on, "Yeah, that's his job!" Could you and your buddy have done it as quick without causing any damage, I doubt it, not aimed at you o.p.
No I don't do this for a living but I do sympathize.

I would only tip delivery men if they're hauling something up or down a flight of stairs. If they're just dropping it off in my front door, they get no tip.

Exactly how it works. They come in drop it on the floor then they can leave empty handed from me. Now they come in, its heavy or expensive, they un pack, ask where I want it and put it there with not complaints, and put somewhere I couldnt do it by myself Im going to buy them luch or dinner on me.

Dont care if that is thier job. 99% of them that just drop is thier job and per company rules. The ones that go above and beyond just a drop off is doing that to help you and for that little bit extra for going all the way.

I paid $50 for delivery of my couch set (a couch and a chair). I had one wide flight of outdoor, enclosed stairs. I was going to tip these guys, but then they slammed a corner of the microfiber couch into the stucco. No apologies, no concern, they didn't even wipe the stucco crumbs off the couch. I'm then handed a clipboard to sign off on the delivery, and they've got a wad of 20s stuck under the clip.

I gave them each a bottle of water and sent them on their way.

Exactly. Tip people for doing a good job. I once had carpet cleaners waiting at my old place for half an hour because I had accidentally left my apartment key at my new place. They graciously waited, and I tipped them $50, I think.

I once had a pizza delivery guy call me after he delivered my pizza because I didn't tip him because he was rude and didn't bring a pen with him when I had to sign the credit card slip.

I've never tipped furnature delivery men. Are you supposed to? I kind of view them like UPS and FedEx guys.

Hah! What'd he say?

I tipped the guys who pumped our septic tank $20 each... I don't know if that's typical, but the guys pump human excrement for a living.
