Not so much how long is the box on, but how much do you really watch? This is for TV in all forms including OTA, Cable/Sat, streaming, DVD or other disc, stuff you recorded yourself, etc.

Other than some brief periods to see if it still worked, my TV hasn't been on for over 5 years.

I don't even know what shows are current, and don't want to.

I'd say 1 hour max per day, I typically watch something pre-recorded and it's usually when I'm having a meal just to have something to watch while I eat and to have some noise. I rarely sit down just to watch TV. Sometimes I do if I want to binge watch a series or just watch a movie but it's been a while since I've done that actually.

I used to be able to pickup a OTA station here so sometimes I'd put that on but they got rid of OTA in my area a while back.

I stream live sports (NFL/MLB) sometimes but far more often I'll have it on AM radio or the Audacy Android app in the background while I do other stuff. Mets game is on as I type this in fact.

Otherwise I have a few YT channels I subscribe to and watch when they post new stuff and I also have Amazon Prime with Paramount Plus for Star Trek.

Full-attention I figure between 1-2 hours a day average.

Zero hours. I haven't had tv since the 90s.

Yeah, haven't had one since circa 2000. Though in my case it's because I don't want to pay for the TV licence, which is presumably a reason specific to this country. Don't really watch "TV" in other forms either. I have a lot of DVDs (mostly from charity shops) but never, ever feel like watching any of them, even the movies I've never actually seen. Just cannot be bothered.

Do have the radio on a fair amount though...though I can't say I understand why I choose to listen to LBC - a pretty right-wing station - wall-to-wall conservative presenters (almost every single one of them privately-educated, typical for this country -7% of the population yet nearly 100% of the top media and poltiical figures) and a steady torrent of astonishingly dumb phone-in callers (I did like the mad shouty Scotsman, who for a while seemed to call in with exactly the same high-volume incoherent right-wing rage on every single topic).

I suppose I must like getting riled up by them on some level. I actually think I prefer it to the sheer self-satisfied smugness of BBC Radio4.

"TV"? Close to zero. If you define movies as TV, then maybe 1-2 hrs avg. I'll only watch movies maybe 1 or 2 days a week, and it's usually one or two movies in a sitting.

Not watched actual broadcast or cable TV programming in maybe 20 years, and when I did it was mainly AdultSwim and Comedy Central. At that time, even History channel and Discovery had started taking a dive.

I used to listen to npr. I still do, but it isn't constantly on like it used to be. Between Trump and covid, I got majorly burned out on "news". I now listen a few hours per week to make sure the world isn't blowing up, but listen to music more than anything. The music has been mainly undefined ambient, chill out, space, and stuff like that. I couldn't tell you who most of the artists are. It's just a soundscape that doesn't shock my brain.

I listen to podcasts quite a lot. But not in any systematic order. Hence I sometimes get my "news" a long way behind the curve, if it's not something they are going on about on the radio.
Really don't miss TV at all.

2-4.

I watch almost every Caps game and thats like 2.5 hours alone.

Will definitely have more than that some days now that the NBA playoffs are starting with NHL starting in a week.

Also put 140 hours into Elden Ring since it came out at the end of February.

I don't count YouTube as watching TV... that's computer time. Watching YouTube on a TV sucks, because the ad blockers aren't as effective.

Woudn't the computer ad blocker work the same way? Or do smart TVs do anything weird with the hdmi feed and inject it's own ads? My TV is over 10 years old so it basically just works as a monitor and never really had any issues. Using a RPI right now and it's kinda slow though, I may eventually get a NUC or something.

Depends on the day. Sometimes I get home so brain-fried I can't even handle thinking through a show lol.

I haven't had live TV in ages. I do TV shows & movies on Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc.

Broadcast/cable/satellite = 0 hours per day/week/year. We cut the cord 2 years ago.

Streaming = 2 - 3 hours/day

I have a router that blocks ads (uses Google Safe Browsing) for devices I choose. Problem is that CBS, now Paramount+ won't work if ads are blocked, as they show an ad about every time you start a show or movie, resulting in the fact a show just won't start. Fortunately, I can configure that on the router to not block the Fire Stick. It would also be useful if you have kids, as it can block types of sites you wouldn't want them visiting, all which can be configured.

Where the blocking by the router really pays off is on our phones. I have some games that are literally unplayable due to the nagging if I'm on 4G or some other Wi-Fi.

Even with the ad blocking by the router, I still run it in my browser, and it is blocking what gets past the router.
