How much will 4x 512meg sticks hurt?

Hey,

I have a s939 board that is overclocked a 3000+ venice up to 2.4ghz using a 3:2 memory divider making the memory run ~200mhz and also in 1t . I need more then 1gig of ram for todays games like bf2 and fear... will adding 2 more 512 sticks of ram still allow the use of memory dividers or does it downclock the memory to 333?

You'll be able to adjust the memory speed back up to 400, but you will not be able to run 1T on four sticks.

It should let you run at the same divider unless you have a rather weak memory controller on your cpu. You WILL need 2T, though, which will give you a ~3% performance hit (according to corsair, anyway).

I can live with that, i have 3 other people logged into my computer most of the time so 1gig isnt enough for todays games really anymore .

I was wondering the same thing. I've got a winnie 3k oc'd to 2.3(9x255) with my mem(Patriot xblk) running 1:1. Anyone think that adding 2x512 ram(same kind of course) will cause problems with my current set up?

geez, back then 2GB was over kill and price being a bomb, now games are loving it LOL
yeah T2 timings on 4 sticks,

i wonder if the same applies to Intel CPUs

Digiram you might have some trouble running it at over 200MHz, but using a divider shouldnt be a problem.

My 4 different Kingston Value sticks are running at 212MHZ @ 3-3-3-11 which isnt too bad I guess

4x512 I have heard kills your OC potential.

That's why i have stayed away from 4x512 VX

Hahahaha.

On a scale of 1 to 10,

1 being a slight poke from a toothpick to your fingernail and a 10 being a sledgehammer to your fingers, I would say that this is a 1. Seriously though, most accounts point to 2T as a 3% performance hit compared to 1T. I wouldn't put it past 5%. It will not be too bad. If you had stated money wasn't an issue I would have said sell your ram and try to get a hold of 2X1GB though.

1T going to 2T will not be terribly noticeable. Whatever FPS you lose you could make back with a video card overclock. However, not having 2GB in BF2 etc. will hurt you a lot more than using 2T. With a Venice you should still be able to run at DDR400, though.
