Tank 70 liters (or 18.5 US gallons)
35,000 lei/l (or $1.25/l or $4.73/US gallon)
CO95 unleaded (that would be the cheapest octane to be found here)
7l/100km (almost only highway driving, I don't drive in city)

Total: 87$
or almost 15 cents per mile

I don't plan to fill it for a week or two (I still have a quarter tank of gas). So by then, I think the panic price will have subsided. So I'm thinking $30 for a realistic fill.

It's a Civic..use 87 octane.

yea, you are pissing away money if you use gas that isn't rated for your engine. higher octane doesn't have more power, it just handles compression of high compression engines better. your cars computer will compensate but your money will still be gone for no reason. think car and driver did a test on this once.. ur hp might actually go down.

We all know that gas is high but everyone is blowing out of proportion how much it really affects anyone. Lots of people say they won't go on a trip this weekend because gas costs more... Let's look at the facts.

Gas is less than $1 higher than it was 2 weeks ago and no one was complaining much then. So let's say it is $1 more to use a round number. Also let's say you go somewhere 150 miles away for vacation.

Even if you drive an SUV that gets crappy gas mileage, it'd get at least 15 mpg. So to drive 150 miles on a 15 mpg vehicle it'd take 10 gallons of gas or 20 for the round trip. Again if gas is $1 more than it was before the hurricane, that's only an extra $20 for your vacation. Is that really such a big deal?

Some people on the news here (Milwaukee area) have said they won't even go to Great America this weekend. That's only 45 miles or so and there's no need to take an SUV there so that's even less than $10 extra to go there.

Yes gas is expensive and yes I'm just as pissed about it as everyone else... But there's not really any reason to go making life altering plans just because of it. Unless of course or income level and expenses are such that you can't afford the extra $20 or so...

Anyway,m to answer the original question, My car takes about 12 gallons of gas and as of today were somewhere around the $3.25 mark so $39... Average around 280 miles per tank so $.14 per mile...

It would cost about $53 to fill my 15 gallon tank with premium at $3.50 a gallon. My car only gets about 22 MPG, so I'm not planning any big car trips anytime soon.

I think Franky overestimated the fuel economy of some SUVs... you're looking at 10-12mpg for most V8 powered ones. Trip to the Jersey shore is about 150miles for some people.

So at ~10mpg (you're guaranteed to sit in a traffic jam) 300+ round trip... 30 gallons at $3 = $90... People don't like that thought more than anything, spending close to $100 to go to the beach?? Well, I bet there will be a more carpooling.

Beater -
10 gal
$2.999
87 octane
~25mpg (daily commute is local road only)
Total: $29.99

Sports car -
14 gal
~$3.30
93octane
20mpg (again, mostly city driving)
Total: $46.20

And my coworkers don't even question why I drive the beater now.

I have a V8 Durango and get at least 17 mpg on the highway when we go up north. Normally around 15 for city driving. Some V6 SUVs get more like 18-20 mpg as well.

Now if you have a Hummer or an Excursion or Expeditino or whatever those insanely huge ones are, then yeah, you deserve what you get for bad gas mileage. But most normal sized SUVs don't get that bad.

There's a guy at work that has a Hummer and of course I haven't seen it for a while. But I wanted to go put a Feed Me! sign right by his gas door.
