Screw Obummer Care. I heard it was going to be cheaper ... Bull Shit!

This is what it says two adults no children ages 56 and 58.

Amount you pay for the premium:
$11,083 per year (which equals 13.04% of your household income and covers 100% of the overall premium)

No subsidy.

What does your current plan cost, including employer contribution if applicable?

I've been playing with this calculator. The rates vary wildly, depending on where you live, your age, income and number in household. This is gonna really hurt he middle class. When you look at the upper and lower figures, it becomes really clear that this is a redistribution program. And look at the freaking deductibles, before you get any relief!!!!

So this thing became a law before anyone really understood how much it would cost? No wonder we have people in congress fighting against it. There has to be a better way.

Remember people, the average person/family in the US aleady paid 20% of their income to health insurance premium prior to obamacare. For many the exchanges are well below that. The exchanges aren't meant for everyone. Some will benefit. Others will not.

My wife pays $25 for a HD plan through work. The total premium is $325. A better plan(silver) on the exchange(without subsidies) is over a $1000 cheaper per year. When we upgrade her to better insurance we definitely aren't going with her employee provided coverage as it costs more for worse coverage at all levels.

And why are people that have employer subsidized healthcare looking at the exchanges anyway? Unless you have shitty coverage I just don't understand the point? And if you are looking, quit looking at what you are paying and how much the total premium is.

Ummm welcome to the world of health insurance? Its always varied depending on all those, except income. Income only matters because those under 150%, under 400%, and over 400% of the poverty level have different caps and tax credits.

And I don't know what you mean by the last line. No relief until deductible? Silver/Gold/Plat all have co-pays. Bronze, in addition to the yearly checkup, also allows 3 primary care visits per year(per person) with a co-pay then out of pocket until deductible, at which point its 40% until max out of pocket($6250 for individuals and ~$12500 for families).

keep in mind these are only the opening first year costs for your obama care. Following years the numbers / fines / penalties / rates all go up. Elections have consequences.
Also that what you're paying for is insurance, not necessarily coverage. That's an important distinction and one that few are thinking about initially. Too few Doctor's combined with finite resources yields rationed care. Your age and overall health are going to be some of the determinations used to decide if you get that cancer treatment with a 28% remission rate. Maybe that hip replacement too.

In other words, when obama said health insurance would be as cheap as a cell phone bill, he lied.

Along with keep your plan and keep your Doctor. Most importantly, our elected officials seem to be completely out of touch with the realities of living outside of the beltway.

Far too many are living paycheck to paycheck. Even if they can get a plan at the same cost as a cell phone bill, they must find a way to cut something out of their budget to afford government mandated health insurance. Now we all know that our government can't find anything to cut. Nancy Pelosi told us there was nothing left to cut. That we'd already cut to the bone. The people will just have to find a way to do something the government is unable to do themselves.

Depends on tier and subsidy. A lot of folks are quite likely to see exactly that. Especially given how so many seem to like overpaying for cell service.

It has gotten to the point where working class families will be poor, driven into poverty by the cost of health care alone.

I had to drop my wife off my plan because we could no longer afford it. She has insurance through her job so she is still covered. But she has some health problems that and I wanted her double insured.

People are supposed to either buy health insurance or pay a fine?

Well, the people wanted change, and they got it.

People wanted a single payer system. They got this corporatist mess instead. Next time, vote your self interest.

Who are these people?

A corporate mess the President/his party worked hard to sell and pass. The same people who are in cahoots with the insurance and pharmaceutical companies that stand to make good money from the ACA.

People have forgotten that redistribution of wealth was an enormous factor in the implementation of Obamacare. To put it in the current vernacular that makes so many all weak-kneed in giddy anticipation, it's about "fairness" and "equality". These are primary goals for a whole lot of folks in our nation today. It's what they were taught in school as being our biggest problem.

So, where does the wealth exist? Surely at the top but that won't accomplish redistribution at a level to make the kind of difference a political party that wishes to remain in power for ever and ever needs. But the middle class? Woah, that's a whole lot of people and the sum total of what they have eclipses the uber rich. The 1% as they are so fondly referred to.

You get money where there is money. The trick is to not piss off that big block of voters in the process. But if you could somehow get a really large block of voters as insurance against that, well, that would surely be a good thing. Now, where would they come from?

Yes, this conservative president and the conservative majority of the Democratic Party in concert with their Republican colleagues crafted the bag of dog poop that is the ACA. The Reps then refused to vote for the bill but only because it didn't stink enough to their liking. Next time, vote your self interests.

$2486 per year for a single 20s male, non smoker. For 70% coverage and high deductibles through a "silver" plan.

Versus my employer coverage which unsubsidized would cost $3500 or so (and covers 100%), but due to veterancy at my employer costs around $600 a year.

Yeah, hard choice.

Obama has been to the right of Reagan in most of his policy decisions. Obama talks like centrist but his actions are very much to the right. There are little of the left remaining in the Dem Party.
