How often do open your laptop?

I have a laptop for work. I have a docking station at work. I rarely do any real work from home, but I bought another docking station for home. I can only think of one time where I needed to use my laptop while I wasn't at work or home, and that was to look at some videos I recorded for work.

In other words, I almost never open the lid of my laptop. It's geared for CAD work, so it's not a small or light laptop, and I'm required to carry it home with me every day. I was thinking it would be so much nicer if I just had small form factor PC that I could just plug into a docking station.

I don't use mine much anymore. Desktops at work and home, and a phone for elsewhere. Not much room for a laptop.

It's my main computer at the moment. Open it up every morning.
My desktop (midtower, and I have two of them) aren't used a lot. Mostly for HDTV stuff. Most of my computing is done with my laptops and when not in use, I close the cover, which puts them in suspend. So, quite a few times most every day I open and close the covers. Two of my laptops are in docking stations, the one in the bedroom is not.

I rarely use those 3 laptops with their batteries, which remain, 1/2 charged, in the refrigerator. I have another laptop away from the house at my volunteer job. I ferry data to it with a thumb drive.

My Chromebook is my sole personal computer at the moment. Looking at building a VR rig in a month or two, but that will pretty much just be for my Vive & VirZoom setup.

Thinking about upgrading to the new HP Chromebook 13 tho...16 gigs of RAM plus a docking station sounds pretty awesome.

I don't own a laptop, but have one at work I use mostly for passing time during night shifts while I can keep monitoring stuff on the work machine. My last position required a laptop as I was off site, and when I moved to this job I got to keep it. Have a desktop with 4 monitors for actual work. So the laptop sits on the non corporate network off the side. I ended up putting Linux Mint on it. I don't have it connected to a keyboard or monitor so I open it. Though it's crossed my mind to get a monitor, a higher resolution would be nice.

If I did not have that laptop I'd probably end up buying one of my own though.

My main comp is a desktop I built about 3 years ago for games ... but I rarely play anything anymore. I've got a laptop for work with a docking station at work. I bring home my laptop often to study with. It's easier than my desktop because I'm able to spread my stuff out on the kitchen table and work easier that way rather than my small(ish) desk and uncomfortable/worn out desk chair. Matter of fact, I'm on the laptop now

If I forgot the word "you" in the thread title I would have been chastised to no end.

I just typed that from my couch with my laptop. I use it often, yes.

I own about 15 desktops and 20+ laptops. I used to be a strict desktop guy, but now I use laptops about 95% of the time.

Over time I've gravitated to the Macbook line and I own them in every size (11", 12", 13", 15", and 17") ever offered. But my favorite is the Macbook Air. It is the best of all worlds and now I have five of them. I have one of them on me almost all the time.

Let me think....

15" laptop screen.

46" HDTV screen for the desktop.

No brainer. The laptop gets rarely used, which is why I sold my laptop and the only reason I have one again is I saved an old one that was thrown out. It will probably get turned on once in a great while to set up a router or something.

Main PC is a laptop. I have a desktop but didn't bother setting it up last time I moved.

The question should be "how often do you close your laptop" and the answer would be "when I take it on a trip".

Hindges are weak on my 6 year old laptop. So I never close the screen.

At home, every day. At work, it depends on what I am doing. I could open it several times a day, or leave it docked for months on end.

The great thing about a laptop is that you can bring it to the bathroom with you and play Pandora. How loud are pussy tablets anyway? Can you hear them threw the shower?

Ehh, at work, I open my laptop all the time, I have a mediocre lcd at my desk, I've mounted it vertically to the side of my laptop, so I have a bit more screen real estate by using both.

It comes with a lot to conference rooms where I'll share slideshows or whatever on a projector

I tend to dial in from home in the morning before I drive in, that way I have a bit more overlap time with the India team so I can help them out when they are stumped by stuff. I do have a CRT, keyboard and mouse that I can connect to the laptop for better usabillity at home, but I usually use it's screen for extra screen real estate. If I had a 4K display, or if I hooked the laptop up to a 3x 1080p type setup, then I wouldn't need to rely on it's integrated screen, but, otherwise, it's open all the time.

I use laptop exclusivly for work. I have a couple of desktop i5 systems at home that I use for all my personal computing, gaming, paying bills, etc

My desktop is my main computer and as far as I can see, it always will be.

I do have a laptop though, for when I travel (not too often). I do want to get a newer laptop though cause the one I have is quite old and slow and I use it for software development when I travel. Plus maybe I could play some older games on it too (KOTOR runs super choppy on the one I have now, lol). I occasionally see a good deal for like $300 or so from Woot or Slickdeals on a nice laptop; I'll pull the trigger one of these days.

Once a week when I remember so the battery doesn't completely die.

I've had a SurfacePro 4 since December and now use it daily. Prior to that, some cheapo Costco AMD special Acer piece of turd for ~5 years. I used that Acer maybe once every 3 or 4 months, a few minutes at a time. Only laptop I owned in the previous 12 years.

Now surafecepro gets roughly half of my computer time (still a big fan of desktop), which means that nearly 90% of my AT trolling now comes from the surfacepro...which I call a laptop
