So, I have been told to eat more seafood for my heart.

I used to eat a lot of seafood but haven't for years and was pretty shocked at what the supermarket had. I used to eat swordfish, cod, flounder, bluefish. I couldn't find any of that. The fish monger said they do occasionally get swordfish and cod, but not often.

What the heck happened? Its kinda scary. We depleted so many of the fish stocks. It seems its all farm raised salmon and catfish and shrimp now. Plus some weird species I never heard of that are advertised as "mild white fish"

So, what does your fish diet consist of?

At home, nothing special...perch, cod, flounder, bass, tuna, salmon, shrimp, crab, the occasional scallop or lobster.

Where do you live?

Usually 2 or 3 meals per week. The best for you are shellfish and cold water fish (tuna, salmon). Warm water fish don't have the Omega-3's. Also farm raised fish don't have the same levels of beneficial nutrients in them than wild caught.

I like to eat scallops, clams, mahi mahi, salmon, and canned tuna. I'm allergic to shrimp and lobster... otherwise I would eat them too

No cod seems weird. I'm not exactly close to any oceans and my closest supermarket still gets cod. Don't see swordfish or flounder much.

My wife prefers salmon since it's less "fishy" than other fish. I like trout more. I used to work at a fishery that raised cobia and pompano for food. Tasty, but I never see them in stores out here.

Not very often any more. I used to eat seafood a couple of times every week, but since I got hurt and don't fish in the ocean any more, maybe once per month tops.

About once a week. Mainly stick to Gulf seafood but do get salmon every once in a while

I simply can't bring myself to pay the $$ for quality, wild caught seafood from the local fish monger. A single serving of a nice salmon filet will run $17. A good serving of scallops can be $12 or more. Other fishies like Halibut or Orange roughy are also very costly.

As far as natural supply goes...look at this:

Oddly, Salmon is going crazy:

Does salmon count as seafood? Maybe once a week? No so much with sea insects.

Farmed Salmon actually has virtually none of the benefits that wild salmon does. The Omega 6: Omega 3 ratio in farmed salmon is actually the same as industrial cattle, as is the antibiotic content of the farmed fish.

You have to get over it, unless you get it fresh off a boat that goes out daily it's frozen at sea anyhow.
Buy it frozen.

I eat seafood about 2-3 times a week, mostly tuna. I love seared tuna steak. I eat smoked salmon for breakfast many days. I also occasionally eat oysters, squid, and mussel. Oh, and I love sushi of all types, but unagi (eel) is my favorite.
I'm making fish and chips for dinner tonight with some halibut I picked up at Whole Foods yesterday.
So, in retrospect I eat seafood way more often then I thought.

I eat fresh fish My uncle takes frequent trips to upstate NY and spends every weekend fishing and always brings me back one or more. I usually prepare it once a week or so and give the rest away to neighbors.

I'm dying for some bacon wrapped scallops. Unfortunately my wife doesn't like scallops.

I could also go for some fried clam strips doused with a spritz of lemon.

What I really miss though - yellow perch from Seneca Lake. Damn those were some of the best fish I've ever tasted.

I'll eat almost any kind of fish, but I don't do anything that has an exoskeleton.

In IL you can walk into a Shnucks supermarket or a Deerbergs and get all the salmon you want to eat. Of course you have to look whether they were farm raised or not. Often see crabs and clams too. The other day deerburgs had some Golden Trout. That is not exactly seafood but it is good eating. In the midwest here we also see a lot of Catfish and Buffalo, but who knows how many toxins are in lakes and rivers.

Usually you can get something like white fish or halibut, orange ruffy, flounder, etc. I have not seen much shark and tuna but to get that you probably have to live on a coastal area or something. I know Japan sells a lot of Tuna.

As a suggestion, you might look at some korean gorcery stores. They always have all kinds of fish and scallops, squid, octopus, etc. A while back at the korean store in St Louis, MO they had some Alibone. It is a type of sea clam that is considered a delicacy in Korea. They use to dive for it off the coast of Cheju Island, off the southern coast of South Korea.

Good Luck.

I bet in Seattle they have plenty of seafood. Look for some kind of Louisiana style restraunt. A lot of those folks immigrated from the gulf during the flood.

Red Lobster often has fresh scallops on ice. I watched my wife sock some away the other day. She liked them. Red lobster might be a little on the expensive side. Make sure you ask them to cook the fish all the way.

So what area do you live in?

1-2 per week. Not including canned Tuna(maybe twice per month). I go fishing on Sundays and usually catch a few trout to cook up.
