Now that I work from home I spend money about once per week. It's a huge money saver working from home. No gas to buy, no lunch to buy, etc.

All those apply to me, but I grocery shop less frequently on average. Gas I do the day I hit Costco, every 6-8 weeks, occasionally I need another gas stop (yes, I drive that little, and when I do, I piggy back as many errands as possible). Never use vending machines. I never hit coffee joints or convenience stores, rarely eat out. You won't see me walking down the sidewalk carrying a cup of coffee, soda or whatever. I think I do more online purchases than otherwise, around 60/year. To me, the UPS guy is Santa Claus! I love the guy. Most days.
- Grocery shop once a week. This includes lunches for at least a week.
- Typically get gas that day.
- I generally don't use vending machines.
And usually if I'm going to be stopping for one thing, I'll do a few other stops as well to get it all done at once.
I eat for like $2-3/day and spend $2 on gas/day because of my short commute
Trying to save a shit load of money. I eat rice/eggs/chicken/corn/green beans/peas/beans/pasta/bread in some amalgamation or another.
I'll bring like, half a cup of basmati rice already cooked, 1 fried egg, and a quarter cup of corn/peas to work in a tupperware container and heat it up. 95 cents. Yup.
Why so drastic?

I don't understand why that's drastic. Seems standard.

I can relate, I used to be like that. Now, basmati rice costs more, a lot more, than the cheaper rices you can find. It is better, I believe. I used to buy it in pretty big sacks (at Costco). Nowadays I get the organic short grain brown rice from Costco, haven't bought white rice for years.I eat for like $2-3/day and spend $2 on gas/day because of my short commute

And those coffee places, whew, does that blow your food budget?!And this too. The average person eats for $11/day I believe. I don't think people really realize when they blow even $8 on a sub and a drink how expensive it is to eat out. You save a ton of money by cooking most of your meals, healthier too. Cut out stuff thats high in price right now like beef and you're down to $5-8/day for food easily.
For those who can manage to eat for less than $5 a day, how tall are you? I feel like at 6'2'', it's impossible for me to not eat for less than $10/day. And I eat pretty healthy too, but the cost to eat healthy is higher than to eat crappy.
