As far as I know, on a $/calorie basis, it is so much more expensive. But I would like to know how otherwise to save some money.

it's a common misconception, and is one of the big excuses that lazy fat people use because they'd rather believe it and do any leg work.

you can get chicken for like $2/lb and even cheaper when on sale. frozen veggies are also cheap. bananas are like $.60/lb. apples are like $2/lb

sure it won't taste as good as that burger from 5 guys (or whatever) but it's a lot better for you.

It depends on how busy I am with projects before and after work. If I am slammed I go many days without making a purchase. My car goes 700 miles on a tank. We grocery shop on the weekends.

About 2/3 of my days are like that. My lunches are provided by my employer (because it gets them out of having to pay for my lunch break), I sometimes don't do breakfast, so all I really need to worry about is dinner. I don't buy drinks out, I don't spend much on gas, I usually don't eat out.

For those who can manage to eat for less than $5 a day, how tall are you? I feel like at 6'2'', it's impossible for me to not eat for less than $10/day. And I eat pretty healthy too, but the cost to eat healthy is higher than to eat crappy.
Health and fitness are a top priority for me.

You can eat healthy for not all that much more than eating crappy. But you don't do that at restaurants, you have to be frugal about it. I'm 5'10". If I were 6'2" I figure my food costs would go up maybe 10%.

I buy some organic stuff, but don't insist on that. My apples, yes, organic, because I heard that the pesticides they use on apples are particularly harmful. Same goes for my coffee beans, for the same reason. I buy some other organic stuff, or at least pesticide free, when reasonable.

Many years of living frugally have given me a lot of understanding of how to keep my food bills down. I haven't been keeping score lately, but I'm pretty sure my daily food cost is under $6 on average. That's everything I ingest.

I don't obsess about eating healthy, but I absolutely think about it and keep my indulgences in check. For instance, I'll eat some chocolate, an occasional hot dog, will indulge at times when I do eat away from the house. I try to limit my sugar and salt intake, it's not hard for me to do that. My blood tests are stellar.

Not as often as I would like, I need to figure out a good lunch plan, but my struggle is where I'm actually working changes constantly so I can't stash stuff in an office fridge.

Organic pesticides are just as or even more harmful than synthetic ones.

even more harmful? citation?

It really depends. Organic can be just as lethal.

Once you are dead, there is no need to measure further.

Getting into Pesticides and more than likely human eradication methods was one of the things I was contacted about in college. The pay was very high, but reading between the lines I knew it wasn't just plants and pests I'd be working on.
