and i'm excluding utilities, cable, etc.

i'm talking about just days where you go about your daily life and you don't have to spend a dime on anything, as in make a transaction for anything in a store.

today i had one of those days. didn't have to get gas, didn't buy a soda at the store, didn't have to buy any lunch or food, nothing.

and it just hit me - that RARELY happens. even days that i don't spend on normal things, usually i'll stop by the store or something to get a soda, or fill up on gas, or get a gallon of milk ... just something. i can't remember the last day i didn't take my wallet out for anything.

You should check out Mr. Money Mustache. I don't like to spend money period. Although it's freezing we haven't turned on the heat in the house yet. I try to spend only $50 a week on groceries.

I mean, even if you go a day "without spending", those bills are always racking up. Electricity, mortgage, etc. Eating food, driving your car, etc. is spending money. Just because you're not physically handing cash to someone doesn't mean you're not spending it.

Typically during the week I spend nothing. I ride a bicycle to work year round and pre-purchase all of my food. Occasionally I need to make a Thursday trip down the block to the store for something we ran out of.

Shopping is delayed until the weekends and I enjoy the simplicity of the workweek.

If it weren't for my daily coffee/lunch routine, I could go days without spending a penny.

Plenty of days during the work week. Lunch is almost provided to us every day. Refrigerators are filled with drinks and cabinets full of chips, cookies and other snack food.

Days I work I can go without spending a dime pretty easily. Days I'm off I spend way too much. Sitting at home is boring.

used to be most days per week, but at my new job they have a cheap cafeteria (i can eat for 1$-3$). so i just eat there instead of packing lunches.

I probably only spend money 3 days out of the week. Friday when we go out for dinner and then of course buying stuff on the weekends.

For those who spend money on a regular basis, what's a typical ballpark average amount? I'm talking about ordinary expenses like lunch, coffee, transportation, etc.

I probably spend less than $50 on any given week including the weekend. Of course there are occasional weekends that are much pricier but the week is always cheap for me.

That's true enough. I probably don't actually "spend" money more than one-two days per week...but that doesn't mean the actual expenditures stop...

If I didn't buy a coffee every morning, I would go days without opening up my wallet.

discounting getting gas for the company truck, I probably go four days a week on average, but sometimes I'll go a couple weeks without spending money.

I like fresh fruit and veggies, yogurt, bread and milk as needed.
Travel is spending.
Though I like to use a thermos for coffee. (addicted).

0%, and unless somebody here lives in a homeless shelter or something, I'm not quite sure how it's not 0% for them either. Any day that you use water, heat, electricity or the like, you are running up a tab of some kind. You may not be paying for it on that day directly, but you are still using resources (which cost $$).

It's probably 50%-60% or so of the week I don't spend money. I pack lunch, I make instant coffee or coffee at home, and I usually go straight home after work. The weekends I spend to make up for all that non spending though

I make once a week trip to the grocery store and Costco. Most other days I don't spend any money. Only need gas once every 2 weeks and I bring lunch from home. With the holidays coming my Amazon account is seeing more action but the rest of the year, it's not that much.

Plenty of days, and I think it's salutary (good for me). In terms of quantifying it, I'd say maybe 1/2 to 2/3, maybe more... I don't keep statistics on that.

I hit Costco average every 6-7 weeks, the market where I get almost all of my other food average once every 10 days, I'd say. In recent years I hit Trader Joe's on average every 3-4 weeks. My Amazon is higher in the holidays too, for one thing two of my credit cards have 5% discounts on it during the holidsays. My Discover card does that for all online shopping, in fact, this year Oct.-Dec.

I don't even have central heating in the house... yet. It rarely freezes here, though.

For a couple of years I kept stats on the cost of my groceries (very rarely ate out), and came in under $4/day, so I was comfortably under $30/week. Lately, I've loosened the reigns, but I imagine I'd come in under $40/week if I kept track.

I wouldn't say I don't like to spend money, though. That's absolutely not true. I often love to spend money, especially when I've researched my purchases/spending and am happy with my decisions, which is very often the case! I seldom experience buyer's regret, but it does happen.
