how often should i swap out my shower towel?

I have 2 towels and I use one every other day. I usually go 2 weeks between washing.
I also have a heated towel bar which keeps them drier and fresher.

I typically use mine for no more than a week. Typically less because I can smell it when it starts to "turn".

I use a towel till it either A. starts to smell then grab a new one and put the old one in the hamper or B. IT's that time of the month and wife grabs my clean towel and uses it, then I don't touch that one and grab a new one and put it under lock and key

There was a fun thread with a poll on this same situation. But to repeat. I use two towels and wash them every couple weeks or so. Thus maybe 5-6 washes each.

Bacteria lives quite well in the bathrooms. The environment couldn't be better... the warm moist air and all the bacteria you bring home ends up living in the bathroom. and when you "wash" w/ soap shampoo etc... a lot of the bacteria still gets caught in the evaporation and the water is not hot enough to kill them off. Therefore, if you think it's clean to leave towels in for over a week... good luck. I'd be crazy to leave it in for over two days.

Edit: not to mention all the minerals and chemicals that comes from the water. All the H20 dries up but Flourine, Chlorine and other minerals still remains in the towel.

Now for sheets, I used to go a quarter before washing in the dorms, but I've gotten better and do that bi-weekly. Girls like clean sheets.

It all depends on how you store it between showers and what the humidity level is. If you dump it on the floor, it'll funk up right away. If you hang it promptly and it's summer in Davis (8% humidity), it'll last for ages.
