I'm in the same boat as you, i'm 21 and make the same. I know i could probalby do better, but where i'm at isn't TOO hard and it's laid back most of the time, so while i'm going through school i should be in good shape.

21 just interned this summer at EE company, made $23/hr plus $4500 scholarship (about $16K for 12 weeks of work)

During the year, i survive off of academic scholarships for tuition and leach off my parents for room and board

I went to Pharmacy school once upon a time until it came time to work in the pharmacy and I realized how ****** a job it is. If I made 200k a year I wouldn't do that type of work, with exception to inpatient pharmacy.

28 / Full time student and work doing research in bio-informatics (no pay). Only income is from the VA (military disability), and what my wife and I have saved over the years).

What I don't understand is how all these 20 thru 24 year old's on here "supposedly" earn over 60k a year? lol I call Shens on some of you!

With two B.S. degrees and a M.S. in computer science I qualify for jobs around the 65+k mark...so how do all you without degrees and with just an undergrad get hired for that and more? I handicapped myself by serving on active duty (Army) for a good amount of years first, but hell I hope to make good money like all of you someday. For all you big earners Congrats! Sadly...my wife makes and will probably always make more than me. But as long as I get to keep spending money its all good.

For those of you making what seems like an above-average amount of money for someone your age, do you ever feel it's weird? Like while all your peers are making x amount, you are making 1.5-2x more? I am sure the young lawyers, pharmicists, etc can answer this one. I know you worked hard and all but isn't it a little weird? Or those of you making twice as much as your dad did at half the age. Just something to think about.

No, I don't feel werid at all. In fact I feel superior to these college dropout friends of mine. Who only make $6.75/hr working at hooters.

Well of course, but I was speaking specifically about what you make compared to those who make the average amount for your age. I am not talking about comparing yourself to the bottom of the barrel.

Good point.

The more I read and re-read, the more I realize that TTIWWJDAL (This Thread Is Worthless Without Job Descriptions And Locations). I'll lead by example and restate mine.

For the record, I'm 24 in MetroWest Boston area, and making right around $25/hr plus free broadband internet and phone (home VOIP via Vonage, by my choice) and before OT (mostly via oncall rotation). I do UNIX hw/sw tech support, with light consulting/training duties mixed in. By market standards I am underpaid but not only am I in a great situation manager-wise but I believe there are plans for salary adjustment soon.

Well the average amount is kind of skewed because you have 22YOs in college not working and you have 22 year olds out of college with a technical degree pulling down 50K a year.
