Living at home has certain advantages, you are saving massive amounts of money by not having to pay rent. Plus its far cheaper to have people share utlities/phone/insurance than it is to set it up on your own.

I propose setting up a family compound like they have for the mafia and other organized crime. This way, the entire extended family can live in one massive mansion and still maintain a high level of individual privacy.

After college is BS, which college student can't get a part time job and get a roomamate. Even here in the Bay area you can get a 2bd 2bth apartment for $1200/month. Split between 4 thats only $300/month. Apply for student loans if need be.

Why move out? to be a man, drink beer, party with chicks. Making all your own rules.

I moved out at 17 and dont regret my decision at all. I understand its within the Asian cutlture to live at home till your married and 35 but seriosuly, what women respects a man who lives at home with his Mommy?

the traditional asian ones that the guy's mom wants them to marry.

i live on my own but my parents want me to move back badly since i'm barely scraping by. i think they're also having early empty nest syndrome with my two youngest siblings heading off to college within the next two years. i also seem to be the only one that actually gets along with my parents.

I have a friend who makes $90k a year and lives at home with his parents. He's 30. Yes, he's a loser as well.

WOW

imagine how much he can save in a few years by living at home. he can probably puchase a house with cash, if he do it right.

Not Applicable.

My parents live in another country (Italia), so moving back "home" would actually be a blessing! But if you can take care of yourself, and want to be "independent", better find your own place; otherwise, staying at home isn't so bad (unless you're a party person).

I moved out at 18, but now a year later I'm going to have to move back because of financial situation...I wish I hadn't gotten a new car. My old 1991 chrysler lebaron would have done just fine..

I'm thinking along the same lines. I would like to move out on my own. But, I'm at a point where I don't have enough saved for a condo and I don't like the idea of renting.

But, I also don't like the idea of being 24 with a steady income and still living at home.

My dad still lives with his mum and I'm staying with my parents. Nothing wrong with that. I can't see how my grandma can live alone...

Fall of the year after you graduate (undergrad or grad, whatever you choose) - use the summer to find a job/apt.

It also depends on where you live. Some areas are too expensive to move out young unless you move far away, and if things dont go smoothly that could go bad. If you're still in college I don't think there is anything wrong with still living at home.
