Yes, I have. From everything I've gathered about mortgages and whatnot, I would not be able to get one for anything decent within a reasonable distance from work.

Depends on culture. My parents are european and since many of my cousins and stuff still live in europe I saw most living at home until mid to late twentys. Homes are very expensive over there and they have no sweet FHA deals so it's imperitive you save at least 25% for down payment which requires some adult life with some dependancy it seems.

Here, it seems 18-21 is about it. Especially with white parents who seem t boot thier young adults out very quick compared to ASN/mexican etc,.

My youngest brother just moved out of mom and dads at 27. Hes loaded though but him and dad are business partners so it made some sense I guess.

If you are over 18 and you are not in college or disable or sick or whatever, you should get a job and be on your own feet.

<<<<-----been on own feet for years.

i would consider moving back in with my parents after graduation, but i don't think i'd find a job where they live.

as long as you're out by 25ish i guess. When you're courting a girl for reals, it's probally nice to have a place to take her without having her meet your parents right away

After college is BS, which college student can't get a part time job and get a roomamate. Even here in the Bay area you can get a 2bd 2bth apartment for $1200/month. Split between 4 thats only $300/month. Apply for student loans if need be.

I am still in College (started right after High School @ 18). I have a part time job (have had one since starting college). I also still live at home with my parents. Not because I want to. But because it is nearly impossible for me to afford even 300/month on an apartment. Part time jobs around here for students usually pay not much more then minimum wage. After taxes you are looking at 400 or less. The cheapest apartment I can find is 300 - 400/month (that is sanitary) even with roomates. After taxes, food (even with ramen), utitlities I lose money each month. My parents said they would gladly help me, but with 2 others in our house in college (one in graduate school away from home) my dad said just not financially smart when I can get by at home until I graduate.

I did live 1 semester away from home in an apartment and I loved it! As soon as I graduate, I am gone. I can't wait!

Moved in to my own 3 bedroom house at 19. Schools should teach kids about hard work and saving for a down payment <-- headstart on most people

I would say by age 25 you should move out. You should at least have student loans paid and a sizable house down payment ready by age 25 unless you did 3-4 years in graduate studies. If you don't have your student loans paid 100% by age 25 you are going to be fvcked if you keep them kicking around along with credit card debt when you settle down with a wife and start baking babies.

VeggieFrog is 20yrs old and moved to PSU when she was 17yrs old... she moved to England for Uni almost 2 yrs ago... but this is STILL her home. AFAIC, she can live here for the rest of her life, although I know that is not a rational option. But she is always welcome...

My b/f has a sister who is 34yr old, has never lived anywhere but with her parents and as been in college for over 10yrs. That would not be bad if she was gonna be a doctor or lawyer, but she is only taking courses in graphic arts design in the local community college. IMHO, it is WAY past the time she moved out on her own... but then again, he has a brother who is 36yr old and converted the basement into an apartment and lives there full time and the mother still cooks and does laundry for everyone.

That is weird.

edit: I had just turned 17yrs ols when I moved out and got my own place. But my home life sucked and I was better off out of there.

I have a friend who makes $90k a year and lives at home with his parents. He's 30. Yes, he's a loser as well.

Yeah to a degree, but nobody will consider him much of a looser when he buys a house and pays cash for it.

i moved out at age 14. a little too young, but i was very independent by the time i got to college.

i would recommend living away from home for college and definitely out when they have a job. I'll give them a year or so after college if they are unemployed.

I'd say abotu 20ish. Gives enough time to adapt to the real world, ie After HS. And allows them to get college plans underway.

Me, personally, I'd be giving any children of 25 still living under my roof the boot, or charge them rent.

Just make sure you can afford to fix what breaks in the house.
Homes need maintenance that comes out of your pocket like a car.
