How old is your current monitor?
What is the longest you have kept one?

My current BenQ 241vw VA monitor has been rocking along for 9yrs now! Least regretted pc purchase lol.

First monitor lasted 1992-2000 (14" 1024x768i)
Second monitor lasted 2000-2010 (20" 1600x1200 Trinitron flat screen CRT)
Third monitor lasted 2010-2013 (2560x1600 HP 30". I still have it but it got repurposed as a htpc TV in 2013)
Monitor three was paired with monitor 3b which lasted 2010-current (HP 24" zr24w 1920x1200 and when monitor three became the TV I swapped it for another zr24w my wife was using).
Last week I replaced one of the 1920x1200 monitors with a 27" 3840x2160 LG 27UD88.

So two answers to your question - six years for ones and one week for another

I just replaced a 23" HP 2335 1920x1200 from the mid to late 2000's with a Dell 2410 1920x1200 from 2013, about to add a 2nd 2410 to compliment it in the next week or so. Colors, brightness, contrast, etc all a huge step up even though the resolution is the same. Great upgrade for my purposes.

Triple Dell 2405 here. Mine was when they first came out and I paid $1100. Picked up the other two a few years ago. One is not as bright anymore and I can never get the color temp right anymore. The other two are still going strong.

Usually target ~4 years of use.

That said, times are a little different now. HDMI 2.0 was a benchmark in bandwidth (for example) and newer specs for both HDMI and DP are required to take advantage of HDR. Also in the mix is Freesync/Gsync as well. This likely shortens lifetime in the short-term, but hoping some of these become more normalized and settle down.

I've got a new 40" Samsung KU6300 4k flanked by a 23" 1080p NEC from 2010 and a 24" 1200p Soyo Topaz S MVA from 2007ish (both in portrait mode). I've got a couple more supplementary monitors but they're not as old. I don't think I'll upgrade for a long while--I only use the flanking monitors when I'm really going nuts working.

Just bought an Acer G257HU to replace my 11 (12?) year old AL2016W. Figured it was time to upgrade after getting a 1070.

Still rocking a Dell U2711. Apparently I bought it for $830 on eBay in 2010, and got $66.40 cashback from Bing. I wanted a new one for a while, but I dunno...theres always a reason to wait. Previous monitor was a 2005FPW, which I still have in a closet or storage.

My 2690 is 9 1/2 years old now.

It's been a glorious workhorse, but the backlight is dying, and as of recently, it no longer has any properly functional DVI ports. I'm literally reduced to using its analog VGA port right now. So blurry, so shadowy...

The good news is that I have a PA272W on the way. Can't wait for Tuesday.

Well considering your previous NEC was a decent quality model I'm not surprised by your choice of new monitor, though I certainly hope the color accuracy it provides will be taken advantage by you.

You can get decent quality IPS 2560x1440p that wont be as good color accuracy for about 1/3rd the price, but of course then it wouldnt be NEC.

I guess if you have brand loyalty and need professional level color accuracy you dont have much choice.

It's all good. I have a SpectraView license, so the internal calibration features are accessible. I'm surprised NEC hasn't hit up its user base for new license fees in all this time.

The feature I'm most looking forward to (aside from the extra screen real estate) is the built in USB hub. It lets you control 2 machines from a single KB/mouse/monitor set. That's going to come in handy.

The only potential problem I anticipate is needing a higher magnification pair of reading glasses to stare at it through... my eyeballs aren't what they used to be.

Brand loyalty... I'm not typically loyal to brands per se, but the ownership experience I had with the 2690 was mostly excellent, and NEC's customer service was part of that. So I'm buying myself, hopefully, many more years of the same.

I bought one of Overlords Korean 1440p monitors about 2 and a half years ago for $450. It does 120hz with no problems, and the uniformity on it is absolutely perfect. While freesync/gsync and/or backlight strobing and 4K are features id like to have (they dont work together from what i know about them), they are not features that are a big enough jump from this thing to warrant purchasing something newer imo. These new monitors are still 1000:1 contrast IPS panels, just like the one I have, and the picture is not an improvement in any way (especially considering that mine is calibrated with a spectro/colorimeter) save for 4K, but at the cost of refresh rate. On top of that, you read non-stop about uniformity issues and backlight bleeding even on the monitors costing $1000+.

I don't see myself buying another monitor until OLED/QLED or whatever else finally arrives. The contrast of IPS is simply too poor. Having plasma televisions makes it glaringly obvious just how much room there is for improvement when it comes to gaming IQ, even on the very best monitors you can buy. I have 1440p, a high refresh rate, accurate colors, and a panel with uniformity thats extremely uncommon from my experience. I'll be sticking with it for a while.
