Radeon 7950 purchased in the fall of 2013. Arguably one of the best graphics cards I've ever owned.

The glut of cheap high end 28nm hardware has got the upgrade itch stirring again (a bunch of GTX 980's and 980 tis in my eBay watch list) but my ANCIENT Q9550 running at stock speeds is probably throttling even my 7950.

So it's a core system upgrade for me first, then if I'm still thirsty for new GPU, I'll probably pick up a used high end Maxwell card (just to mix things up a bit).

R9 290 Tri-X since early 2014. Bought two, down to single GPU after selling one to a friend late last year.

I'm really hoping small Vega could be a repeat of Hawaii's great perf/$ regardless of power usage, and bring prices for that performance segment down once again. With current prices here in Australia sky-high across the board, I'm more than happy to go through my Steam backlog until that changes (or Star Citizen happens).

I sold my GTX 780 Lightning about two months ago, and was planning on using my 7970 GE in the meantime while I waited for Polaris/Pascal. The only game I've been playing quite a bit of is Fallout 4, and the 7970 GE wasn't cutting the mustard at 1440p. I went ahead and jumped on a used EVGA GTX 970 to hold me over until my next upgrade. To be honest the 970 does mostly fine with the games I play currently, so I'll probably wait a little bit before doing anything.

bought a R9 290 in November 2014

play at 1080 with a FreeSync monitor

don't plan on upgrading 1440 / 4K anytime soon, so think my next GPU purchase timing might be late 2017 or some time in 2018

R9 290 bought January 2016. The card has been pretty good, but I recently upgraded to a 1440p 144Hz display so I'd like to upgrade to a GTX 1070 in the near future.

My 1080s are two months old. I can't wait to replace them next week with two Pascal Titan X cards. The cards are getting too old.

I'd go 1080 if I were you. Much better performance at that rez/refresh rate.

Are you planning on switching to quad Vega's since you can no longer run quad SLI?

It was shown that 1060's could SLI in at least one DX12 game. It's possible that future DX12 games will remove the need for the bridge or support from Nvidia or AMD to SLI, but I wouldn't be surprised if he were to go Vega, if it's faster.

GTX780 3 years ago iirc. Thinking of upgrading to a 1070 level card (would have been nice if AMD had an alternative) very soon to tie me up a few years.

On a 1080 that replaced my 3 year old 780. Huge leap in performance at 1440p.

I selected 3 years.

Technically the 7000 series radeon came out in Dec 2011

However the MSI boost edition card I purchased was released in April 2013.

I was wanting to wait for Vega to make a choice, but with it not coming out until 2017, I ended up going with a GTX 1070. The card is super quiet. I cannot hear it at load any louder than when idle. I finally have a quiet PC again.

We'll have to see how well Vega does with multi-GPU. Chances are I'll end up sticking with two of the new Titan X cards.
