How old were you when you wrote your will? At what age should you write a will or at what point in your life should you write one?

I don't have much, but I was just thinking about this today for some reason. What happens to my belongings if I don't have a will?

The age to write one is when you are 18 or older and have concerns about how your stuff will be disposed of.

My wife and I will probably write one soon. I think having your first child is the milestone when most people start thinking about wills and/or life insurance.

I still don't have a will yet pontifex, but I'd like to know the answers to your questions as well!

I'm 27 and have no will.

* ----> Wife

Whatever she doesn't want she can give to my parents and brothers.

So I guess I'd write my will when I no longer want to give everything to the person who would inherit it in absence of a will.

I haven't written one yet because I don't have anything worth a will. Everything I do have will pass to my parents under intestacy laws anyway.

At 30 when I had kids. My wife andI both did. It was easy since my father in law is a lawyer. You can get a quick, generic one whipped up at a young age.

I'm 28, I'm not married, and I don't have any kids. I have less than $10k in the bank but I do have a bunch of firearms and some other "junk".

I think you mean probate. Advanced health care directive and durable power of attorney for finances are also important in the event you are incapacitated. Wills are especially important when you have kids because then you can designate a guardian for them. Otherwise, the court will decide.

Each state has a will ready for you if you die without one of your own. Naturally an attorney will be appointed by the probate judge and be paid by your estate to handle your affairs. If you have any desire to give/leave something(s) to specific people a will is a must.

EDIT: I forgot to answer the OP. I was around 35 when I had my 1st will drawn up.
