How overclockable are Durons?

I've hear some people have 600's running at close to 1ghz, but how rare is this? I wish to buy a new system and am thinking of saving a lot of dough and getting a duron and overclocking it (i was thinking of getting a 700 or 750) to 1ghz.

Yeah but those were Older Tbirds. The new cores are a bit better. Blue core I believe are the ones that overclock the best (applies only to Tbird). Most durons seem to hit around 950-1000 Mhz. I just ordered my 1.1 Ghz Athlon + Abit KT7-Raid, should be pretty cool and fast.. I plan to get it running at 1250 if all goes well.

I've got a Duron 600 @ 1000MHz now. I actually won it in a contest.... supposed to go to 1.1GHz but I'm not so fortunate.

My guestimates:
Duron 600: 5-10% to 1GHz
Duron 700: 15-25% to gig
Duron 800: 70-80%

If your thinking of buying a Duron, I highly recommand checking with compuwiz1 (Steve) I bought a 600 that does 1020MHZ at 1.8V from Steve. He usually connects the L1 Bridges for you and can pretest the chip for ya!

you know what they say about durons, it might be a rumor but, they are supposibly athlons that werent stable at higher speeds so they underclock them label the durons and sell em out to you so what ever speed they were before will depend on how high they go thats why no one posts the same, hell i heard of 1 guy getting 1.2 out of a 600, but yet there is this one guy who only got 750mhz out of it its all up to luck, and i hear that the higher ones clock about the same as the 600.........

it's just a rumor... the Duron also has a smaller cache which is not just a "disabled" cache but an actual sized one. so in effect it is a somewhat different design from the athlon

I had a Duron 600 that ran stable at 900MHz. I'm now using a Duron 700, running stable at 1.083GHz.

Depends on each batch of Durons. Most of them will overclock comfortably with no problem, but some will put up a fight beffore they will overclock. It depends if you are lucky or not.

Hope you are lucky and get the CPU you want!
Merry Christmas to you all!!!

I have a 650 doing 800. I had to 900 at one point, but it locked pretty strongly. I had to clear the CMOS and start again.
I have yet to get some artic silver (using just regular T grease). That may help with my FOB32, and get me to a higher speed ...and stable.
I had really high expectations with thi schip as it was unlocked from the start ...remains to be seen.

Finally got mine to stabilize at 950 (refuses to do 1000 but can do 979 but no 3Dgames at this speed will crash) - perfectly stable at 950 - For the cost of FOP38 it was worth it. Shucks some people do not even have a 350 cpu which is the incremental change!

600@900, 1.70v, no problems.
A guy at work has a 700@1050, dont know how much he increased the voltage though, but hes using a midrange fan/sink setup, so I dont think he increased it much.

Durons are quite obviously not just an underclocked Tbird, or a Tbird with disabled cache. The die is physically smaller; if you compare a Duron and a TBird it's quite a difference.

The later the week, the better overclocker it is.
MY week 21, factory unlocked Duron maxes out at around 850 with a fop32-1

Duron700, and just won't go over 900. On 900 it isn't 101% stable, but usable... on 850MHz it's rock stable.

If you're sure you've got the FOP32, that's probably why you can't go higher. The FOP32's clip isn't designed for the Socket-A processors. But by all means...
