It sure looks like they are going to have a good game catalog in a few years.

I look forward to purchasing one when the console prices get back down into reality, hopefully in a few years time. I just cant bring myself to pay more than PS4 prices for this thing, especially since the PS4 has a massive game catalog already and better hardware.
The PS4 can't be taken on the go, though.

Ok? Not everyone cares about "better hardware", either.

You are missing the entire point of the person you quoted. You ever stop to think that people have different priorities for video games? He obviously isn't impressed with the hardware inside, I don't know anyone who really is. Second he wants a larger catalog of games to play. It's pretty obvious to me. He didn't bash the Switch but you jumped right into defense mode.

If someone was only interested in a couple titles right now I would tell them not to buy it and wait until it builds a library.

I'm impressed with the hardware for what it is. I don't know how one can play Mario Odyssey and NOT be impressed with how great it looks on that tiny machine.

I was watching Kinda Funny Games Daily the other day and they listed about a dozen titles coming to Switch, but they were mostly shovel ware. Seems like the Switch may be infested with Shovel Ware like the Wii. Hopefully there will be more games worth playing, and Nintendo could EASILY make that happen, if they would pull their head out of their ass and make their back catalog available via virtual console.

Most people buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. Nintendo has a huge library at their disposal if they would just use it.

I think they will in time, in 2-3 years once they open up the VC and get several dozen more top tier games i think it will be worth the money, perhaps by 2020 or so i think it will have a very strong game catalog. And the console prices will surely drop by then as well, its a win win.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't get excited about VC's and having the ability to buy the same game I could play on like 5 other consoles right now, way more if you include pirating.

The Virtual Console is what would make the handheld aspect of the Switch interesting to me. SNES games seem like they're especially geared for portables. Playing those games through emulation with virtual buttons on the touchscreen of a phone or tablet sucks. And while you can play a lot of old school games on 3DS, the screen is orders of magnitude better on the Switch.

You can play all those games on emulators on both a DS and a PSP right now if you wanted to. But again, this goes into piracy territory so I get it if you're not cool with that.

There is nothing stopping you from using real controllers with emulation, no need for on screen buttons.

I still don't know why Nintendo isn't focusing on pre teens while giving the older kids to Sony and Microsoft.

You're ignoring my point about the much nicer screen on the Switch. I know I could pirate them all on a New 3DS with CFW, but I can't imagine DS is going to play SNES games full speed when the original 3DS has problems playing some SNES games at full speed. And I had a PSP and that thing couldn't play SNES. I got so bored by the PSP library I put a CFW on it and used it to play NES roms, but that was about as far as I could push it (SNES was awful). That was ten years ago, but PSP still doesn't look great for SNES emulation from some videos I have seen of it recently. Plus I hated the screen on my PSP. I bought it because I was riding the bus to and from work and figured it would be a good buy but the thing was unusable in any kind of sunlight even with the brightness cranked to the max. I ended up just giving it away to my brother after a few months and then he sold it after a couple more.

That's such a bulky solution.

??? Ive got a steelseries bluetooth controller thats 1/2 the size of my phone, not bulky at all, if anything its a little small but works great. If you had to dick around with wired controllers thats a mess for a mobile application for sure, but there are many small wireless controller options on the market for phones/tablets.

Sure it looks good for a game that you can play anywhere but it's not a good looking game while playing on the the big screen. I loved Mario Odyssey and its my game of the year but it's not great graphically. It's not a game that really needs great graphics but more power would sure help with resolution and AA and less pop in of objects.

I agree, ive watched dozens of gameplay vids for it and its not impressive at all graphically. Looks like a fun game to play though.

My tablet would no longer be a handheld device when using something like that. Unless you want to add a bulky stand to the bulky controller to create some ridiculous monstrosity of a gaming handheld. The Switch is such an elegant design to getting first rate handheld SNES gaming with a great controller and screen if they'd just bring the Virtual Console back. I would go buy one today if I could get the 3DS Virtual Console's collection of SNES and NES games on it.

Mario looks fantastic on my 120" screen. No it doesn't look as good as Horizon Zero Dawn does on it, but it still looks great.

I don't know, I hear a lot of games media people clamoring for VC. I care, because I haven't owned a Nintendo product since the original NES, so I missed out on Mario 64, Galaxy, Sunshine etc. and all of the Zelda games after The Legend of Zelda. I want to play those games, and I am not sure I want to buy a 3DS or Wii U to play them. I want to play them on the latest and greatest.

Playing a old game on the VC does not require the latest and greatest hardware. That said there is no reason the VC should not be available yet.

But it would require me to go out and buy older hardware. Nintendo being Nintendo they don't discount their hardware either. Why would I go out and pay $300 for a dead system when they should be bringing their catalog forward?

It can't be much work...they are porting Twilight Princess to nVidia Sheild afterall

I bet the Virtual Console is going to be a subscription service that'll be introduced with the paid online service, and hence the delay. That's the only thing that makes any sense for a console starved of games put out by a company with such a great back catalog.

If I got the entire vc catalog for the same price I pay for ps+ I'd do it in a heart beat.
