Greetings mates,as plainly as the title says.I'm going to purchase a rig something during Q1 07... still unsure bout how i should go bout picking my specs.. though should roughly look something like the one stated below but i'm still unsure..i might purchase a monitor seperately so it would be mainly for the CPU...

C2D 6600
2GB DDR2 PC667
Gigabyte DS3
Gpu=?
250 sataII Seagate
Psu=?

Do you guys think it's a good idea?

You can check the tabs at top of page for AT's Recommendations and guides to computer components.
Good luck on your build.

$1300 buys a NICE pc these days.

I would second the recommendation of looking at the AT Buying guides.

Alternately you could search the forums - there are at least 30 posts every day asking about what to build.

sorry for the late replies... umm probably some gaming but i do enjoy gaming at high settings on decent resolutions...(1280x1024)?? apart from that i'm basically getting a new rig for the past umm 6 years... so i'd like somethin that would be powerful...

1280x1024 isn't really a coveted resolution anymore. It's basically the standard.

Here is what I got from newegg yesterday w/o gfx card & monitor for 1,257 before ~$120 in rebates:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600 - Retail
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

SAMSUNG Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive Windows 98SE/ ME/ 2000/ XP - OEM
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card - Retail
Scythe SCINF-1000 CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail

Antec Performance I P180B Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel for durability through the majority of chassis 1.0mm cold rolled steel around the 4 x HDD area ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

In two to four months the prices on certain components of this rig probably will drop some, but what matters most is whether you need a new psu, case, and monitor. If you can skip those three you cut out a significant chunk of your cost. My final system cost is going to be ~1600.

CPU: C2D 6600 $306
RAM: 2GB DDR2 PC667 (don't spend more than $200)
Mobo: good choice...$130
HDD: 250GB seagate 7200.10 $75
PSU: the enermax liberty 500w is more than enough. $110
GPU: X1900XT 256mb or 512mb $220 or $250, respectively
Total: $1041 or $1071 (depending on GPU)

the x1950pro is good, but the x1900xt is better. unless you're going crossfire (which i highly doubt), the x1900xt is a much better purchase. the x1950pro costs $220 after rebate; the x1900xt costs $220 without rebate and is faster at all resolutions and in all games (benchmarks by Anand)). remember, there's two X1900XTs: one is 256mb and the other 512mb (both faster than the X1950Pro). since you're getting an enermax liberty 500w, power won't be an issue but fyi, the x1900xt does consume about 50w more than the x1950pro.

if all you do is game, then an E6300 is certainly more than enough. at $180, it is a much better deal for you.

I intend to game, do some torrenting,data storage... and just basically have it as my entertainment center... i'm still contemplating since i'm going to purchase it during Q1 07 should i wait for RD600 and make a gpu price/performance ratio comparison.since i might spend on a high end card lik ethe 8800gts and Ati should have competitors in the same range wouldn't hurt to wait for that option right?

IF i were you i would buy a midrange card like a 7600gt or a 7900gs (they were going for 150 no?) or something on the cheaper side for now and wait for r600/ nvidia prices to go down in the future. Spend 1100 and then save the last $200 and then later on sell the card for $80 or whatever to buy a better card in the spring or even next summer when $300 will get you something nicer.
