yea, I edited my post. Tabasco seems hotter to me than the numbers indicate. It also has a fairly wide range. They gave 2500-5000. I wonder if I usually luck into the higher end of the scale?

Tobasco always seems hotter to me as well, wonder if it has something to do with tobasco being so thin and vinnegary?

TLDR:

1) City of Irwindale woos Sriracha maker Huy Fong Foods to build their factory and manufacturer their hot sauce - providing an attractive 10 year loan.

2) City of Irwindale finally found out the 2012 annual revenue of Huy Fong Foods. Then suddenly a single house hold, son of an Irwindale Councilman, made a smell complaint.

3) California EPA conducted tests and inspection BEFORE and DURING Sriracha manfacturing - Huy Fong Foods passed both times. After the City of Irwindale complaint, California EPA used special testing equipment to detect garlic/chili smell for levels that will irritate nearby residents - Huy Fong Foods passed again.

4) David Tran,owner of Huy Fong Foods, suspected something funny - takes out loan from East West Bank (at higher interest rate) and paid off City of Irwindale 10 year loan. City of Irwindale will no longer earn millions from the loan = City goes full retard.

5) Recent court hearings discovered that most, if not all, of the smell complaints came from only 4 Irwindale households - the son, relatives, and friends of the Irwindale Councilman (whom excused himself from the matter due to conflict of interest). City of Irwindale declares Huy Fong Foods a public nuisance.

6) It is also revealed that the City of Irwindale is in negotations to sell property NEXT to Huy Fong Foods to a Waste Management company. The the new Wast Management facility/property is intended to treat "sewage."

My relatives live right across the street from Huy Fong Foods, and they say you can barely smell the chili/garlic, but most of the time can't smell anything - a car's exhaust from a car passing by is more noticeable/bothersome. I live about a mile away and can't smell anything.

not sold here.
The only american sauce that is widespread is tabasco.
But the market for chili is covered by the Harissa chili paste from maghreb. I guess they aren't too different.

Sriracha's kind of meh, but I like the idea of razing lower Manhattan, and raising chilies there.
