I'm a 5'3 guy and seriously considering limb lengthening.
If I were anywhere near average, 5'6" or 5'7" and above, I wouldn't even consider this operation. This is major surgery. I'm only doing it because I am a 5'3" circus freak. I am not saying it's wrong if someone near average wants to gain a little extra height, but I think people really need to think this through and weigh the risks and benefits.

I'm 6'4" and I like my height, but it does come with some disadvantages:
- size 15 shoes pretty hard to find.
- nearly impossible to find a well-fitting long-sleeved clothes. Anything that fits my arms and shoulders is about twice the size of my torso.
- a lot of basements are annoying.
- I never have leg room in small or badly-designed cars
- plane trips are terrible.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't be shorter if I had the chance.

I can only imagine the problem with shoes that big...You could always buy from the place that makes them for Ronald McDonald...
I have enough difficulty finding shoes for my big Flintstone Feet. MOST shoes, I take a 12 4E. The length is easy to find...not so much the width.
My work boots are between 10-1/2 and 11 2F...which is about the same as 4E. The start at about $400 per pair. Not only does White's Boots make the best work boots you can buy, they also make decent "walking shoes" that are OK for MOST work environments...but start at a bit over $200 per pair.
New Balance is great for people with big feet...but they're not always the appropriate footwear.

It is not a coincidence that I'm wearing New Balance shoes right now, and have another 2 pairs at home. Luckily I work at in a pretty casual environment and don't go to many fancy places, so I end up wearing running shoes almost all the time.
Clothes are by far the most annoying aspect. I have XL sized arms and shoulders, but M/L sized torso, which means that for jackets and sweaters I have to choose between looking like I'm wearing a poncho, or rolling up the sleeves because they're too short regardless.

My dad's brother is 6'7" so the possibility was there, but my mom's father was 5' so that possibility was there too, I guess I can't complain. What miffs me the most is my dad is 6'2". I never even see him but it pisses me off that he's taller than me.
Why shorter?Originally posted by: coldmeat
6'1 and would prefer to be a few inches shorter, but I'd rather be tall than short.

I'm 6'7. I love being tall, but it has drawbacks. Nothing fits. Clothes, shoes, whatever. My hockey skates are 1-2 sizes too small. I duck to go through doorways. Plane rides suck. I don't fit in a lot of cars. I'm tired of scouring the internet for things in my size.
Oh yeah, people are scared of me too. That can be fun though

Quite satisfied with my height. Buying clothes is a little tricky, but well worth the inconvenience.
