How the hell do you win a drag race in NFS:MW?

How the hell do you win a drag race in NFS:MW? I am at number 10 on the list where you have to drag in order to beat him. The races and game has been fine up to this point, but the drag race is making me use manual shifting. Why is it doing that? Can you shut it off? I've turned it off for the game, but it still makes me use it for the drag. So I've tried to beat him like 15 times and I can't and now the game's getting pretty old . I'll take recommendations or even a cheat at this point.... Thanks

Um, just shift at the right times. Bump the stick left or right to change lanes, and its really quite easy

the drag racing is the easiest part of that game. and no you can't turn off the manual shifting because that's the whole point of the drag racing. shift and switch lanes. it even tells you when to shift, how hard can that be?

Oh, this is for PC BTW. So I'm not sure to which stick you are referring.

And thanks Fisher. I knew how to do it all along, so that's why I posted. I actually wanted to be ridiculed in front of about 1 million of my peers. You've been a great help.

it's not easy...takes a while to get use to shifting, but the hard part is you basically have limited control over your car's steering, just acceleration and decceleration...AFAIK you HAVE to manual shift, and if you don't have a controller it's time you invest in one, it makes the game a whole lot easier.

The earlier drag races are a piece of cake but the later ones can get very frustrating. The main challenge is dodging all the traffic, as the cars and trucks deliberately try to get in your way. You can't steer your car manually at all and the automatic lane shifting is very unresponsive, so you need to basically memorize where the cars come and switch lanes well in advance. It's a good thing the drags are so short, so you can keep trying them over and over again until you win.

Yeah, that's most of the problem. First of all, the very beginning of the sprint is on a 90 degree curve so I don't know how "lane shift" is going to help. Am I missing something?

The way to win at a the drag races is to hit the perfect shift point, shift when the green light is on the screen, and when the needle's green. If you could use an auto, it'd take away half the point of the drag races. You want it to auto-avoid all the traffic for you too?

Put the regular races on manual, you wuss!

The game steers your car in turns like that automatically. All you have to do is dodge left and right, accelerate, and shift.

just remember, during drag races, the ai cars can go places our cars cant go. They can drive on the sidewalks to dodge traffic, while we cant.

I'm gonna share w/ you a nugget of knowledge i know now, that i wish i knew on a couple of the drag races on my way up the list. Hit bullet time and you have full control, as all you ever need is a momentary amount of turning, then it's accelerate as fast as possible. You should not have a problem w/ drag races after this. Just wait till some of the cop challanges for the last 2 - 3 members, i found it a bit difficult to say the least.

Drag races are all about dodging traffic by remembering when to change lanes. Sometimes you have to go under trucks and stuff... not too hard if you just keep trying.

You get use to it. I got stuck on a drag too but eventually after doing it time and again became a master at it

after a few tries you'll kinda get a feel as to the traffic pattern. they aren't always 100% the same but usually they are pretty similar within the same race. you don't really have to do anything but tap left or right to change lanes unless you want to go from one side of the road to the other. if you go too far you can wreck. basically the rest is shifting (which again i think is the easiest thing to do in the game, it shows you when to shift, you just have to hit the button) and paying attention to what is in front of you. for some races i'll dump my nitrous early to help me shift up through the gears faster, other races i'll save it til the end.

I've only found the drag races to be frustrating because the auto change lane thing doesnt always fully change your lane. After you running through the same drag, it's pretty easy. The shifting is insanely though, way easier than in U and U2. I found getting high enough bounty the hardest thing.
