I get the feeling that it's really not, for many people.

Earlier today, a family friend shared a meme on Facebook saying, "Like if you support amending the Constitution to ban Muslims from public office!" I thought about posting a comment responding to it and realized it doesn't make a difference. For some reason some people irrationally believe these kinds of insane things with no rational explanation or ability to support or justify them. This person, and everyone who had liked the post, would just become offended and outraged that someone had the nerve to call them out.

Supporting Trump must be a breeze when that's where your mind is.

There was a poll recently showing basically >1/2 of his base will never ever change their opinion regarding him despite whatever happens and admit this on a poll (the true number is probably higher given that people tend to report to polls what is socially acceptable or what they think the pollsters want to hear: the Bradley effect or social desirability effect. ie people who are racists know its socially unpalatable and tend to deny it to pollsters even if they know and accept internally that they are truly racist and so on). As per these responses, Trump can literally take a dump on their mother's face whilst she lays in a medicaid funded hospital bed and they would still back him and call her an obamacare-using democrat turncoat if Trump recommended it.

These sort of polls really discredit your positions. It's not that you're not tired of this mess but rather, due to simple but still fairly robust mental gymnastics, you just can never ever see it as a mess at all, regardless of how truly watery, stinky, and brown colored it gets. To do otherwise is to seriously refute and possibly collapse your current world-view.
