How to baby proof these stairs?

I just bought a new 2 story house and I am trying to figure out how to baby proof the staircase. The bottom stairs wrap around the wall so there is nothing to anchor a baby gate to. I was thinking about attaching a piece of 2x4 to the wall to affix the other side of a baby gate to but my wife wants something that will look more professional.

The top of the stairs have a wrought iron railing that is large enough for my 9month old to fit through. I am thinking about putting plexiglass on the sides and zip tying them.

I found a baby gate kit that was supposed to work with stair case banisters but the wrought iron is too small and the kit didn't work anyway. I ended up using zip ties but it slides up and down when I try to lift up to open the gate. Any ideas?

Nice house can I come live with you? Do you accept a rent for one of those rooms? I'll pay you $200/mo and make sure your baby won't fall off the stairs too. Need not worry about food as i can provide for myself I'm very poor..

I like the 2x4. Do a good job w/ the edges, sand it and paint it white, and it may look professional enough. Eventually take it down and patch the holes, paint etc. No real permanent damage.

You can get the better boards that cost more but have sharper corners, won't stick out as much (smaller shadows). Could even put a touch of silicon caulk there but it'll be tougher to repair the wall later of course.

Those stairs are horrendous. The hand rail is supposed to run from the top step to the bottom step, and the baluster spacing should be no greater than 4" (so a baby can't squeeze through).

You're going to have to build out off of the face of the two bottom walls, 2x4's would work, but I'd use something a little nicer looking.

That's pretty slick, never seen one like it.

Grease-up/WD-40 a ~3 square foot area on all sides of the stairs. Floor will be too slick for baaby to get anywhere near the perilous stairs.

There are baby/pet gates that are very wide, you could use that (someone posted one already I see).

A more cost inefficient solution would be to convert your staircase into an elevator. Problem solved!
