how to best take portion of CD music track and make into wav

Hello. I'm working on the Chicken Katsu website and need advice on making music samples. I want to take samples of songs from music CDs and turn them into a wav file with fade in and out. What's the easiest free software to do this? I'll later take the wavs and convert them using RealProducer G2 and stream them off the server.

Just rip the CD tracks to .wav files using CDEX. Then use Cool Edit 2000 to edit the .wav file to meet your needs.

CDEX is freeware and Cool Edit 2000 is shareware.

However, please be aware that unless you have a license agreement with whoever owns the copyright for the samples you are making you are breaking the law by using them, even if it is for a personal web site.
