‘Safari’ is the default and the most preferred web browser in OS X. However, there can be ample reasons for you to prefer other browsers. For instance, although ‘Safari’ is equipped with all the latest features, but Chrome and Firefox score higher in the department of speed under certain circumstances. Thus, keeping your convenience in mind, OS X allows you to switch to your preferred browser as well. Here is how you can change the default web browser in OS X.
Step 1
Click ‘System Preferences’
Launch ‘System Preferences’ from the 'Apple' menu or the dock (at the bottom of the screen). Consequently, a window will open up with multiple system settings.
Step 2
Click ‘General’
Click ‘General’ from the multiple options displayed on the pane. This will open up the settings panel for general preferences.
Step 3
Select ‘Default Web Browser’
Look for ‘Default Web Browser’ on the panel, and select the rectangular box, displaying the name of the web browser. At present, the ‘Default Web Browser’ is ‘Safari’. Subsequently, choose your preferred browser from the drop down list. For instance, here we chose ‘Google Chrome’.
