It's the same, normal part number as shown above. There are no '5' part numbers. Absolutely ZERO way to tell on the outside of the box or PCB or anything.
I took a look at their stock and grabbed the newest serial number. But I bet they were all C2s. Only the ROG boards got 'em first. I really hope my VI GENE from Amazon is a C2.
Hey guys, I just found out what's happenning in Japan.
Asus is releasing the c2 stepping boards to suppliers on Oct 16th, so they'll be in shops sson after. I ordered mine today ... I'm told to expect it on 20th. Been waiting a while for this, I'm getting the Asus Gryphon.
Thanks for your posts thus far, they've been helpful.
Now to decide on the ram & ssd.
The shop is "Applied", but I live in Japan. They know I've been waiting on the c2 step model for months, I always pester them to check with their supplier, last night we got the news. What vendor let you order a C2 specifically? I also need a Gryphon.

Your board isn't using the Z87 chipset: your CPU-Z screenshot shows "ID8C50 + Rev. 05" instead of where "Z87 + C1/C2" would appear.was wondering if this board is C1 or C2
