How to check if its 10BaseT

Hi, I'm going to college soon and I assumed the motherboard's built in ethernet would work with the campus set up. However, upon further inspection it requires a 10BaseT connection. I've checked the website of who made it (RealTek) but found no answers. I've emailed them but I doubt they'll reply. Is there any way to check if it works with 10BaseT and if not which card is good to replace it? Thanks.

If its a fairly recent motherboard it's for sure 100Base-T. That will work fine and drop down to 10Base-T if that is what they really using at your campus All the realtek cards will do both. The only100 BaseT devices I have ran into that would not drop down to 10Base-T were older 3Com Switches. You plugged in a 10Base-T cable and the light would not even light. All realtek stuff that I have ever used that is 100Base-T will do both 10 and 100.

Thanks I apperciate it. Its a little less than a year old. The onboard ethernet is listed as: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

Which according to the website seems to still be available so it is probably 100 baseT

just about any network card made in the last 5 years is 10/100 Base-T.

It will operate with any 10 Base-T or 100 Base-T network (ethernet)
