How to college?

(I applying now, no clue how to college)

In all seriousness, college applications are ridiculous. They ask like my parents "number of colleges" (which meant like if they stayed at the same college for their masters and bachelors). The wording is so ridiculous. Common App has some of the colleges I'm applying to but for the ones that aren't on there, its twice the work (I have to reinput the same data I put into Common App into their own application).

Roadmap For College Success:

1) Go to community college for 2 years and take basic classes that will transfer(math, english, etc). Make sure you have at least a 3.5 gpa to have the best options for step #2. This should be much easier at a community college than a real school.
2) Pick a reasonable major and transfer to the school with the best on campus recruiting in your field.
3) It's important to have a social life but focus your time on recruiting and network for jobs. Start your first year there, not your senior year.
4) Do not go to law school and only go to a top 10 MBA program.

Are you really looking how sympathy on this point from a bunch of geezers who had to type, like with a typewriter, their college applications? But first we had to type and mail actual letters to the Admissions Office of each college requesting an application package. But before that we had to find the address of the Admissions Office which usually meant we had to go talk to the creepy HS guidance counselor to see a college directory and copy down the addresses. Don't even get me started on hounding profs for reference letters for grad school admissions.

Similar but this one involves massive ammounts of crippling debt.

Im gonna be a senior, I've been working on my Common App for a couple of days.

Grades are decent enough to get me into my #1 choice. (Only applying instate and VT)

I could only imagine, then again you coups be stupid and get into Harvard. (Just like now, except without the boatload of money)

Just hit the gym and prepare for a life of digging ditches now.

I'm actually at the gym right now.

What ever you do because your parents are paying, don't get too out of line or get lazy. Just focus, meet new people and study. When you are done you will get a job assuming you are not a liberal arts major or in basket weaving. Then you can make money and use it to enjoy yourself rather than work to pay bills lol.

If you think those applications are a pain, wait until you see what the rest of life has in store.

Suggestion #1: Don't get anyone pregnant.

Suggestion #2: Don't take on a lot of debt unless you're going into a field with a reasonable guaranteed income (engineering, finance, etc.). It's ok to be a 25 year old working in a coffee shop, but it's not ok to be a 25 year old working in a coffee shop with $100k in student loan debt.

It's not that it can't work, but that the odds are stacked against you. The roadmap offers the best chance of success outside of any external factors. Obviously you should go to Harvard if you get a full ride.

For a lot of schools #1 will be a waste of time. My school didn't honor CC classes you took as anything but elective credit. This was for an engineering specfic school though, and they felt the math, physics, and chemistry base you get your first 2 years was too important to allow a CC to screw it up.

Actually go to class. I saw a lot of people drop out because they were too lazy\unmotivated to go to class. I also noticed a correlation connecting classroom attendance and who was paying for those classes (kids whose parents were paying were more likely to not go to class so be warned)

What? You can't even fix a garage door!

I think there still might be some life left in this horse....

For a lot of schools #1 will be a waste of time.

It can be pretty specific but for many it can work as long as you are smart about your school and class choices

Lol

I can't fix a garage door due to a mishap related to my violation of item #4. During the soul removal process (part of law school orientation week), they messed up a bit and also removed all the knowledge I'd gained while getting my engineering degree.
