2001 Honda Insight
Told myself that if I could find a hybrid under $5k, I'd pull the trigger on one so here we are. Red on "whatever interior you call the gray, cloth seats." It's a 2001 manual (with A/C) with 142500 on the clock. I'm the third owner. First guy had it until 132k and second owner only put on 10k miles. He had all paperwork that passed down in addition to his which was a plus! This proved that the battery pack was replaced 10k miles ago which was important since the manufactured date of 1/01 means it's now out of warranty. In my search, I ran into more Insights without HOV stickers than with which was hard to believe. This one had them though =D No emblems on the rear, but previous owner bought them and had them in the glovebox. The only thing I'm bitter about was he left me with an empty tank and registration to pay in April <grumble> <grumble>. Otherwise the body wasn't that bad except for the headlights were a bit hazy, front bumper clips were starting to disconnect, driver's side window had problems rolling up all the way, and the lower window trim paint has worn off. The following drive of 40 miles with mostly highway miles yielded 70+ mpg. I'm quickly adapting to a new driving style and loving every moment.
This car will (of course) be the daily driver, but it's been adding to the stable of other cars I do have like the Honda S2000 and Misubishi Evo 9. Yes, I love sports cars and being an engineer I can't get over the awesome styling with consideration of form following function of this spectacular vehicle! I even ran the calculations for the daily commute and at current gas prices I will save ~$818.33 per year and that doesn't even factor into account the 5,616 miles that will be kept off the other vehicles which is priceless to me.
My other babies:
By the way, Evo is for sale if anybody is interested.
