How to connect a 120mm Delta Fan?

Guys,

I just got a 120mm Delta fan (AFB1212GHE) and it's connectors don't seem to be the "normal" red/black/yellow cable!

There is a red/black/blue cable that connects to a 3-pin connector where the red/black go to a 4-pin molex connector and the blue turns into a yellow wire that connects to a 3-pin connector.

How on earth do I connect this fan?

I want to connect it to the PSU.

Sounds to me like its just options. Using the 3-pin connector to the motherboard or using the molex connecter going to the PSU and the yellow wire to the MOBO for optional rpm control/monitoring.

Wait, so I connect the 4-pin molex (which has just the red & black cable) to a PSU 4-pin connector and the 3-pin connector to the MoBo?

I thought connecting this fan to the MoBo is dangerous because of the power it requires (12V @ 3.24A = 38.88W).

I have an Asus P6T7 WS MoBo and I do NOT want to fry it.

If I understand you correctly. you're saying the yellow cable that's attached to the 3-pin connector is just for the RPM control while the red/black connected to the 4-pin molex connector is for the PSU?

Yes, yellow cable only reads RPM and won't draw any power from the motherboard. The power is coming from the red/black molex cable. You have to plug the fan to the molex cable to run the fan. The yellow "3 pin" cable is optional.

I connected the Delta fan and bricks were shat.

The fan is also way too loud!

I suppose it could be bearable with a fan controller.

LOL! To think I was going to get 16 of these! LOLOLOL...

its a delta what did you expect. I used to run 3 120mm deltas at 5500rpm in my old AMD duron computer. It sounded like a F14 at full military thrust.

Definitely get a fan controller. I have nothing but Deltas in my PC but do use a fan controller. I use the Sunbeam fan controller.

Cool... I got the Lamptron FC-5 V2 fan controller which also shows the RPM and is supposed to also be 30W per channel.

Its anodized black as well.
