EASIEST way too cook rice:

1 cup rice
2 cups water

Put in a large microwave-safe bowl

Let it stand (soak) 10 minutes

Microwave on high for 12-14 minutes

Let it stand 5 minutes

Eat.

This is how I cook rice for my dogs. Never over-cooked, never under-cooked, doesn't burn, doesn't get mushy.

Of course, for the dogs, I toss in half of a frozen, skinless, boneless chicken breast and 1 cup of frozen mixed vegetables....but I've cooked plain rice that was as well with excellent results.

(Boomer almost never eats rice...nasty stuff)

You better get to a doctor. I think you caught the schneider :^(

ROFL...no, I've disliked rice my entire life...I'll eat it when we're out for a meal, (chinese, japanese, mexican) but I don't like it, and rarely eat it at home.

turn in your food nerd cards now everyone, i am disappoint.

while jasmine and basmati types have less starch and are less clumpy/sticky, if you want separate grains like in pilafs and that uncle ben's food like substance then you will need to do some prep.

toast the uncooked rice in a large skillet, only a very shallow layer about 3-5mm deep. heat in skillet until very light yellow/tan color develops. this will change the starch in the rice.
rinse the rice till clear and cook in pot as normal. rice grains should remain separated after cooking. if really paranoid, skim the top of the water while cooking to remove excess starch.
you can also add oil or butter to help reduce stickiness.

Srsly though, Uncle Ben's is nasty.

meh.. uncle bens is fine.

i dont eat rice to eat rice... i use rice as a bedding to put real food down on.

then the rice absorbs the liquid from the 'real food' .. and assumes the flavor profile of that item.
Uncle Bens does it just as well as $40/bag jasmine rice.

Nope. BTW, you can get a bag of Jasmin the same size as that for $12-19. Uncle Ben's is close to the bottom of barrel, beaten out by Minute Rice.

rice is a bedding, meant to sop up the juice of good food..

Nope. Only your opinion, check how other countries use rice.

I had Afghani last night. Rice choices were Pallow or Challow, look them up. They stand on their own and could have eaten them as a meal itself.

a good rice with good sauce makes for a good light meal.

i really should pick up a rice cooker and good rice.

A quick dinner I've been making lately is a half cup(dry) rice, mixed with a can of tomatoes, okra, and corn with lots of hot sauce. Quick, tasty, and cheap.
