I bought a rice cooker seven years ago for about $20, still works great.

I use about a 1.75:1 ratio of water to rice. 2:1 and it's too mushy.

I could never figure out how to cook rice in a standard pot. Required way more babysitting than I thought it should. Rice cookers are super easy.

Why are there multiple "how to cook rice threads" every year? Haven't you heard of minute rice? Boil water, add rice, cover & let stand 5 minutes. What's complicated about that?

I'm surprised so many people go with 2:1 ratios. Do you all mainly cook brown or "wild" rice? In my experience 2:1, whether with rice cooker or stovetop, would produce mush. Hell, even my bag of Calrose California short grain rice says to go 4:3 (2 cups water and 1.5 cups rice) and that is a bit mushy sometimes. Do you cook single-serving portions? I know that the ratio of water to rice decreases as the quantity of rice increases, so I guess 2:1 would work for 1 serving but for 6 or 8 servings you would probably be closer to 6:5.

No idea. Like I've said above I never actually measure, just use the 1 inch rule and it always comes out great.

If it's anything like Uncle Ben's or similar "easy" rice blends it's tastes as bland as shit.

Put rice and water in pot. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Turn off heat, leave covered and let sit for 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy. Perfect every time.

Use a steamer. (like your mom in cleveland.)

3 scoops rice, fill with water to the line. (Like I filled your mom last night.)

Add salt and butter. (Like your mom.)

That keeps the grains nice and lubricated (like your mom) so they don't stick together (like your mom.)

What's it like having an IQ as low as yours? Like you just curious. I can imagine there are some advantages to being that slow. The world is a simple place when you are simple after all, decisions are pretty clear when you only see 1 or 2 of the many possibilities. Still by and large it must be a disadvantage?
