How to copy vhs to dvd

I have a video cassette recorder/dvd recorder model number rdr vx530. I have about 30 vhs cassettes that I have collected over the years. Some are old black and white and some more up to date in color. I want to change these to DVD instead of just throwing them away. I've tried copying a couple of vhs to DVD with no luck. Don't know if I'm doing something wrong or is there copyright laws in tapes that won't let it copy from this model. I'm not copy for profit . These are strictly for my personal use. Thanks for any help

Some comercial tapes will have copy protection.
Try with one that you know for sure is not protected,one you recorded yourself maybe, just to make sure there is no problem with your hardware (or your settings) since these things are really old now.
You could also get a cheap USB video grabber and try to get the videos on your PC.

interesting, if you can play something then you can copy it, a capture card can buy it used and then sell it again? i have a dvd burner / vhs combo in my garage i think from 20 years ago lulz, what i would do is just download the movie UHD, ive tried to watch VHS quality and wow it would drive me nuts unless its a homevideo.

Actually, very few pre-recorded VHS tapes sold in North America had copy protection.
You need to provide more information about how you're trying to do this, what types of discs you're using, and what are the exact results.
Because "no luck" isn't saying much.

Ok a lot of my vhs tapes have copy right law so what do I do to salvage them. I would just like to make them DVD to save them. They're taking up to much room. The equipment I have is working. I took a tape I personally recorded at Christmas time 2005 and it worked. So it's the copy right law in my equipment that won't copy the vhs to dvd.

Capture card and a higher end video cassette player are probably needed to get satisfactory results. Personal use is fine under the law. Videohelp.org is probably. digitalfaq and videohelp.com have old threads with similar questions to your own.
