Well you could always use Microsoft Access and make up database if you know how to use it.

I just finished building my DVD Library Database. I only had 5 fields in it (Title, Number of Discs, Widescreen y/n, DD 5.1 y/n, and DTS 5.1 y/n) but has worked well. I built everything from tables to forms to switchboards to reports. I am very proud of the work that I have done on it. lubej if you have MS Access I can send you a copy of my CD Database when I get it done. Let me know if you have any ideas of usefull fields to include in this database, I havn't gotten it designed yet. If anyone who has Access would find a copy of my DVD Database helpfull let me know and I might find a way to make it available.

I believe there's a sample CD database or template/wizard included with some of the MS Access extras, as well.

Eric,

Yes please send me copy of your database when it will be finshed. The only usefull field that I think it should be in your databse is directory listing. For example if I have cd with title GAMES, this information is not enough for me to know which games are on cd if I have many CDs.

Thanks for all your good work.

Looking forward to receive your database.

Ah that's a beast of a different color altogether....I thought you meant audio CD's. I might still be able to whip something up for you real quick. E-Mail me at ericd@kscable.com and we can discuss what fields and everything you need. Although for what you're wanting that program that EmpororNero posted a link to looks almost ideal. Let me know either way.

I found another program and this one is freeware. It is called SoftCat and it sounds better than any database I could ever build. You can check it out here. Let me know if you still want me to try a database.

DOH....it just hit me....what we need is a database for audio cd's that will pull the nfo from www.cddb.com. Hmm...I could even use something that easy. I haven't checked the freebie sites yet, but, possibly they'll do it. Thanks guys.

That's what I thought, I am trying to see if I can figure out a way to get the CDDB to interface with an Access DB. If I can't figure that out I am going to just use one of the pieces of software that I have already found, I havn't tried any of them yet so I can't make suggestions yet.

Eric

edit: I found one that looks pretty good. Only $25 to register. You can find it here.

Well, I'm still on my search for a cd database. I have narrowed it down to the following two. Any comments?

CDProW
Nice clean interface, not as robust, doesn't do CDDB2.

CATraxx
Appears less intuitive, more robust, more user configurability, does do CDDB2, decent little user forum for prompt responses to questions.

I would welcome comments. I believe it is $25 for CDProW, and $40 for CATraxx, but the price difference really doesn't come into play. Both are fairly priced, IMO.

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for, but this type of a database wouldn't be that bad to develop in access I would think. I don't know about the CDDB thing but winamp does it with any CD you throw at it so I'm sure there's some form of query type procedure that it uses. I'll have a look at CDDB.com and see if they have any info on it.

I got CATraxxx and it seems pretty cool, though a bit to databasish for my needs.

DefRef--Have you been happy with CATraxx? I really only HAVE to have cd title/artist. Individual tracks are just icing. I hope to start entering today (Sun.).

It seemed that CATraxx had a nice user base and forum. Quick answers to my lame questions.

IBuySouls--I definitely wouldn't be against using Access. Please let us know if you find some info. I'm hoping that I can easily hide fields, etc. in CATraxx. And, that I can sent the db to people and they can easily see the info.

After seeing it mentioned here, I DLed it and had it scan a dozen CDs. You need to go in a clean-up the data because you're at the mercy of whoever's CDDB entry you get. Year info is typically missing and genres are worth sorting out, but sometimes the entry has the musician info entered.

I need to wring it out some more and I'm pretty busy this week, so I won't be able to update for at least a week. Sorry.

I'm using Music Library by Wen Software. I've scanned ~100 in so far, using cddb, and like it very much. Has a nifty batch feature that lets you scan a horde of cd's in, reading the TOC, then, grabs all the info in one swoop from cddb. They've also had a lot of updates. And, the reg. fee is only $20.

Also, it opens nicely in Access, and is supposed to work with SQL and Excel. I've just gotta figure out how to grab the cd-text info off the cd's I've burned.

Oh, it also has a player in it that I haven't tried, and works with Winamp and some others.

So far it's been very easy to work with. I really haven't read anything...just popped some cd's in. I still can't figure out how to get the cd-text compiled burns into it yet. I've got a question on their forum about that.
