In all honesty, talk to everyone around you. At school I started talking to the people whose lockers were next to mine, even if it's just a simple "Hey, what's up?", it'll make the world of difference. Just do that, but on a larger scale.

i just finished my last day of high school today lol.

Doesn't have to be school. Make small-talk with the people inline at stores, people at movie theatres, people on the bus, anyone.

That depends where you live, if your in a place like New York... This won't work...

Drink beer. Lots of it.
I know that a lot of people make this suggestion as a joke and think it's funny, but if you or anyone you know has ever actually gone down that road, there's a tinge to it. People joke about it, but it can really, and I mean really fvck up a person's life.

I didn't mean this as a joke at all. If you have trouble opening up at social gatherings, try drinking 8 - 10 beers, you'll be as chatty as anyone there, provided you're not depressed. I'm not suggesting full blown alcoholism, but no one can deny the benefits of alcohol in breaking down social barriers and weakening inhibitions.

It's a terrible idea because it's forces a dependancy on alcohol. Have you ever seen the episode of Friends with "Fun Bobby" when he stops drinking? Yeah, it'll be like that, but real-life worse.

There's always somewhere you can go for social interaction.

Do you have any friends? Start with small group stuff with them and meet a few people through them. Try to say hello to random people when you walk by them. I used to be a really shy person as well but i grew out of it by my junior year in high school.

Some cities are different, for example. Fargo, North Dakota where I live sucks, it's mostly for old people with kids. Not a whole lot to do, until you're 21 even then that's not really fun.

People who claim they are social, may just be dependant on other's approval. People who are anti-social may be dependant on the security of oneness. Either way is bad, like an earlier poster said, you can be good socially and prefer isolation; that is not a bad thing.

i hate large gathering. but i have learned sometimes you have to be outgoing if you want to "succed" (at either business or getting women). I can fake it and do very well (sometimes). but it really still scares the crap out of me. wich is one of the reasons i retired. it was getting harder and harder to do.

you would think as you get older it would get easyer? not for me it didnt.
