How to deal with rejection...

Well, there really isn't a whole lot to say. I got flat out rejected by Cornell, and damn does it sting. It was my number one school since the start of this school year for me. I met with some alums for an interview and they got me hooked even more. It just sucks when so much hard work only ends up providing miserable news like this. At least I am not near tears or anything. I just feel sick, but not depressed. This was supposed to be the start of my life...but now my future isn't looking so bright. How have others dealt with rejection?
Also, I know I am jumping the gun on this, but what is transferring like? Difficult?

Sorry I cannot post a thread with some happier material, but I just don't feel like leaving my room now, and I had to vent.

Thanks.

It's just one school. Locate your nutsack and get over it.

You got rejected by Cornell not Southwestern State Technical College and Beauty school. Suck it up, apply to others and get on with life. If this is the biggest disappointment you ever feel in life then you are truly blessed.

That sucks, being rejected from your top school..

Granted I havn't gone through the process yet, and wont until next year, I still know the feeling of utter dissapointment.

I just boot up a game or something and play until I feel better. Nothing like killing things in a game to get rid of rage

And I hope you have some good alternatives. Not getting into your top school isnt the end of the world. And so, suck it up like a man, and wait for other letters. Truthfully, you'll probably be disappointed alot in the next month or si.

trust me, unless you're going for an absolute shit school, where you go for undergrad isnt a big deal. What matters is what you make of it. I know plenty of successful Rutgers (NJ state school) grads.

Just take comfort in the fact that some minority with lower qualifications than you got accepted in your place.

Well, Cornell is an Ivy League school, so I mean that alone should have kept your expectations from getting too high. But if it makes you feel any better, Cornell is in the middle of nowhere. At least now you can have a chance to go to school, oh i don't know, near civilization maybe.

I was rejected by my top 4 choices for undergrad. Ended up at UCLA. Now about 14 years later, Im making more money than I know what to do with. It's better to be in the top part of a class, than to be from a top name place for undergrad (except for maybe Harvard or Yale).

Dude, that sucks.

Rejection letters always stunk. It's tough (especially early decision), but the people above are right, you'll find a school you fit with, and things will work out.

But, yeah, find something to do to take your mind off.

I applied to whole bunch of schools and, excluding wait-lists, was only accepted to two of them. Neither were remotely close to my top choices. I chose one, never really looked back (except once in freshman year) and loved my four years there.

Life goes on.

I was rejected by my ED school - Northwestern. It's annoying because you then have to sit in limbo for another few months as your regular decision applications come back to find out if you got in anywhere. I wouldn't worry about it and just keep your head up and hope for the best. In the end, I was glad Northwestern rejected me because I ended up at the University of Chicago.

Admissions has been particularly competitive this year- none of the nine kids I interviewed for my alma mater were accepted, and I thought a couple of them seemed pretty polished.

Cornell is not difficult to transfer into, if you are still adamant about going there a year from now. Other transfer-friendly schools include Dartmouth and Brown, but I would focus on improving your application for the regular round. Get your guidance counselor to call the Cornell admissions office to see what aspects you can improve upon.

Aww sorry to hear it man, I was rooting for ya! There is always hope of transferring, but I wouldn't sweat it.
Hey on the bright side, now you can just go after the schools with the hotter chicks More fun that working your ass off in the frozen tundra of Ithaca all the time (hmmm..I wonder why I didn't do that instead?!)
Things always have a way of working out, so don't let it get to you...these schools end up rejecting a lot of really qualified candidates; sometimes it's just really just luck of the draw.

Edit: I should I add I transferred (Engineering) to Cornell, but it was a rather difficult transition, especially since their freshman physics/math courses are well ... quite rigorous, but it's possible. Other students will be there suffering along with you..

You don't, you become a raging alcoholic and becoming nothing in life...

jk.

Sorry to hear that man, but there are a TON of other colleges out there. In all honesty you might be better off not going there, you never really know where life will take you. Also, I wouldn't focus on transfering there...go to the next college you wanted to, and make sure you don't waste those 1-2 years WISHING you were at cornell.

I got rejected by Cornell, no big deal either. It was my top school at the time also.

Go visit some schools that are safer bets for admissions. I ended up at a school with a nice mix of party and academics, James Madison University. I had applied for spring transfer to Cornell early on once I got there, too. Can't tell you if I got in or not, though, because I tossed the response w/o ever opening it when it arrived. I was busy enjoying school for the first time in my life, learning a lot, and having a blast at JMU. My only regret was graduating on time

What I'm trying to get across is, if you look around, you'll end up someplace you like even better. Take some visits to other schools and try to do an overnight stay if you can. Most of college life is outside the classroom, and as long as you don't go overboard, you can have a blast and still be an A student.

Just my two cents, it worked for me. Hell, I'm almost a lawyer now

It's not where you go but what you do with the resources and opportunities presented to you. Where you go for undergrad is pretty much meaningless.
