Maybe try watching for the hard drive model numbers when they are detected by the BIOS at startup. Check fast though Also, you should be able to find the model number in the Windows Device Manager, then look up the model number either at Google or the manufacturer web site. Chances are though, that if it is an older drive you are asking about, that it probably has a 2MB cache. But check to be sure.
